If thats a sure thing it might be some 'genetic' failure or broken headlimb in the past. That can make some branches or new growth heading up giving this view.

well i took the photo from the very base of the tree..3 inches above ground level ..gimme a min and ill post anothe rpic of the tree as a whole ... its for sure the tree loses all it needles and turns golden in the fall ... the customer said this about 20 times ...... he said yeah its real pretty but those darn needles ...... when they fall it always gets everywhere .... im going to have my land scape guy take care of thatproblem once a year and do his grass etc ....

But they were soooo pretty when little!

I know a contractor who puts in a new sliver blue spruce on a ladies patio every five years because she likes the small tree there. Pulling the "old" tree out is too labor intensive so they have to cut it down and grub the root ball out:rolleyes:

i really didnt want to tell you guys about the really big dawn we cut about 4 months ago abot 5 feet in diam. 2 feet above ground level ... but it was planted in an area 10 foot by 16 .... it had to go .....

so pretty/small

To keep Silver Blue Spruce small/cute: Take the hedge clippers to it once a year and trim the tree like you would hedges but in the shape of a pine tree. You'd be surprised how many years it will stay small if it is trimmed once a year. It takes twenty to thirty miniutes a tree to trim. Mez trimmed his for 30 years and kept them under 10 feet tall with electric hedge trimmer. It's not all that different than what the Xmas tree farmers do here to get trees to fill out by pinching back the tips. First time I saw Mez out there with the electric hedge trimmer working on his I thought he was nuts but it worked for him. The trees end up like yews that are trimmed into a hedge. Lots of green (silver/blue) on the out side and the interior is dead from being shaded out by the growth on the exterior. The small trees had the perfect conical shape from the trimmings they recieved and you could not see the interior through the growth on the exterior.
