"Apparently, Dodge's advertising was right on when it claimed that the "rules have changed" when that model came out."

That's for sure, especially if you like a long list of recalls on your truck. guess they decided to go back to some of the old rules.
:p

Ford Trucks

Have two F250's
An 1972
and a 1997

The 1997 needs a computer to figuire out what is wrong.
for the 1972 have a hammer wrench screwdriver and broom stick as diagnostic equipment.

When the 97 has a problem it costs me $50 to have the computer at the dealer tell me what is wrong.
For the 72 if I can't fiquire it out in 5 minutes I ask the neighbor to listen to it and cost me a beer.

A new engine / transmission cost me $700 installed for the 1972
Truck has 450,000 miles on it. Third engine / tranny.

For the 97 it started burning oil and the "bottom half" replacement cost $2800. Truck has 62000 miles on it.

Trucks...saws...whatever!

I've got a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 that has 140,000 towing miles on it and I have never put a penny into it besides routine maintenance.

Back to the saw thing. Solo is every bit as good as Stihl and Husky BUT carries a TWO YEAR COMMERCIAL WARRANTY!!! These guys back their stuff. Wake up out there and stop your brain washed marketing loyalty!

Seesaw

seesaw,
I wouldn't call it "brain washed marketing loyalty". It's total lack of marketing. I've gone in to a mom & pop operatin for 20 years and didn't see the Shindaiwa trimmer in the corner. When I was looking for a trimmer I used the Shindaiwa site to locate local dealers and the only one listed within 50 miles didn't sell them, just worked on them. I asked the owner why he wasn't listed and he said they were supposed to be. He also sells Shindaiwa chainsaws.
As for pickup trucks and their transmissions...I prefer a manual...always found that to be more dependable and sometimes I know what gear I want better than an automatic.

Some many years ago the Chevy found its way into the Ford via the Hot rodder and seems to have worked out well..........., now if I could just get this 090 cylinder on the 3120 chasis.
Den, guess I should knock on wood, now that I have become shiftless, my Ford trans is still doing ok, tell your dad to stop double clutching the pick-up, save that for the logger.
****************************************So many ideas, so little time**

Jonboy...too bad his truck is an outo...lol..everytime he hooked up to the fifth wheel or the or the camp trailer...the holdback would blow out...

I have worked on a few Solos now and quite like them...easy to work on...well built....and yep...a 2 year commercial warranty...I still have a 633 here for sale that is modified...my dad keeps trying to take it, so I have to fight him off with the Realtree..

I got a 97 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel and the tranny is still good after 250,000 km. I have the auto tranny, cause I was told the manual tranny (clutch) will get torn out due to the high torque of the diesel and u-joints get ruined faster. The front suspension is wanting though, its not tough enough to carry the heavy Cummins. I ended up replacing the whole front end after it went into a violent speed wobble on the MacDonald Cartier Freeway (401 hwy.)
John

Hi Ben, I was hoping that I could get off that cheap, but everything under there was flopping around like a wet dishrag, however I am sure I got fooked by the auto mechanic, although I have a liketime warranty on the Moog parts. I hate most auto mechanics, if they cant fook ya, they dont wanna deal with ya.
Justifying their work by sayin' " it's gotta be up to snuff".
Anyway, if I dont like getting fooked, I can always do it myself.
John

JOhn, I got the same truck except mines a 01 with about 80,000 miles on it. My track bar still tite, but I watch it. Once the t bar gots sloppy it seems to eat everything up. Offroad work is hard on them also. Moog makes Good stuff. BTW your lucky on your tranny. Must not have it turned up any.

John or Ben,

Does that auto tranny take off from a stop in 2nd gear if that's what you've selected, or does it still go through 1st first?  No ulterior motive, I'm just curious.  I love my C6 for obeying my wishes explicitly in that case.

Glen

Glens, No it takes of in first no matter what gear you haveselected. The indicator when positioned in 2nd just keeps it from shifting into 3rd. BTW This tranny is basicaly just a old chrysler 727 with a bunch of electronic crap.

when you get some money buy a chevy with a allison.
Then you will know the true meaning of front end problems. BTW the allsion in the cheby is far from bullet proof. In the infinite wisdom of GM it was lightened up a bit from the medium duty version.
