1) How large a diameter of log or tree is a 14", 16" and, 18" chainsaw capable of cutting?

2) I'm wanting a chainsaw to cut bowl blanks and spindle stock for a wood lathe. I probably won't be cutting anything larger than 18" diameter , and, maybe some 24" logs, trees. What size saw, and bar size do you recommend?

Thanks,

junker

I've cut 22" oak with my 12" 37cc saw, not ideal but it worked. Get something in the 50cc range with a 16" or 18" bar and you'll be ok.

I do bowls. If you have never tried to dry large bowl blanks, you are in for an experience. I have chunks of walnut and cherry laying in a shed with end grain coted in wax and sealed in trash bags and that are just now getting dry after four years. "Slow" is the word.

herein carolina ,my 16 inch will take care of most anything. but u have to learn
how to make it work. think theres post on this site that tell u how.

Heck, I just use a 24" and that'll whack off anything at the ground level around here. :D
