I did a rpm test on my stihls today. Ordered the tach from baileys.com works great!

ms180c miniboss

idle- 2960
full gas- 14800

ms290
idle- 2280
full gas- 13,600

the figures above are the average rpm. kept flucuating.

ms180

also tested my other stihls (sorry no video camera died) I will get some videos of other stihls later.

results on those:

sh85 blower:
idle- 2600
full gas- 7500

fs90R trimmer
idle- 2800rpm
full gas- 10,000rpm

br600
idle- 2400
full gas- 7400

hs45 hedge trimmer
idle- 2200
full gas- 9100

km55r powerhead
idle- 2500rpm
full gas- 9930rpm

not bad.

Man I do not ever race a saw that looong out of a cut. Maybe some on here do but not me!

check your video comments, thats my opinion

I like to cut a few cookies before I tach, just to make sure i`m up to running temp on the saw. And I think the air filter just comes up and out on the 180. I also have all the covers on when I tach but I have the DTI-20.

I have the same tach as Josh and it will work the same as yours too. It works both ways.

What is the refresh rate on those? Those look nice and small. The 20 is little big but I don`t use it in the field much. The 20 refreshes .5 seconds.

i was looking to buy this tach but the refresh rate seems slow

I'm not sure that I heard that 180 miniboss burble or 4 stroke at all at WOT. Sounded lean.

Your numbers are not higher than "average" rpm...your numbers indicate lean conditions in several instances. Your saws weren't gifted at the factory to be faster than other ones, they're lean.

Also, OPEN the garage door completely. If you read safety data they even recommend not using saws/two stroke in a garage with a wide open door (not a good cross vent). This may be overkill, but at least keep the door wide open and stand near it. No sense in giving yourself an unnecessary dose of CO.

now that right there is funny!!

I can't watch the video without getting dizzy, almost impossible to watch for me.

And not for nothing, but I don't recommend running chainsaws in a closed garage...

Check out these also.

20,000 RPM max, 0.5 second refresh rate, work wireless (or wired option), but have replaceable batteries of about $15 more.
The smaller of the two looks to be about the same size as the SenDEC tach in the videos.

When I tach saws, I run them only wide open long enough for it to top out and them I let off maybe about 5 seconds at wide open. And anytime I see a stock saw hit 13.8K immediately let off, and richen up the carburetor, because I don't want to blow up a customer saws.
