Yes, I have seen that saw. I mistakenly called it an 084 on here a couple or few years ago on here and everyone told me I was crazy, that Stihl neber made one... And apparently I was told right.

We traded out some work for one way back in the early 90's. The old guy who we traded out with (or my boss traded with) told us the saw had originally came stock with a bow bar. That thing was a behemoth. The power head was the size of some small outboard motors I have seen.

false alarm

False alarm i called the guy back and told him I could not find anything on an 082 he went back and checked the tag and it was an 028 av thats a saw iv'e heard of

LOL, are you telling me that I'm crazy too???

Dam I wish I could remember the exact model number that saw we had was.

Never heard of an 028 with a bow bar though.

Now that is a settled topic, I can go off topic.

What the heck is a bow-bar for? I have seen them, but I cannot imagine why anybody would want to use one, especially in small brush where you don't have good control anyway.

It looks like they are begging for uncontrollable kickbacks without any gain in convenience or ease of use.

That's what I want to know....what the heck are bow saws for? I have an ancient McCollough bow saw that I have gathering cobwebs in my barn.

Did I really get that right? Bow saws exist only so that Bubba doesn't have to bend his knees when he bucks up a fallen tree?

No wonder they never caught on up north.

I must have missed that part....Even though it was an effective way to cut wood I fail to see any advantage of the bow saw over a regular saw...maybe I missed that too. Maybe it was all the chainsaw rage in the south back in the day, you know like chainsaw fashion?

I found the bowsaw that I have in my Grandfather's barn after he passed away. He owned a landclearing outfit from the 1920's up to the early 70's in the deep south. Maybe after working in the heat and humidity all day they didn't want to bend their knees to cut the wood up, but I tell you what that saw is still one heavy SOB.
