Ok then. How many feet of throw line, and what kind is it?

Handling throw lines is almost a science. Do it wrong, and all you have is a tangle of string that takes longer to use than just climbing the tree without it.
This is the kit I bought

Mostly going to be using it to drag ropes up in trees that require some, also dealing with lots of crispy dead alders that are safer to just yank over with the winch vs trying to fall them.

That sounds like the good stuff.
  • Hollow braid construction
  • High Strength UHMWPE (basically, this is Amsteel, VERY strong)
It also doesn't kink up nearly as much as nylon contractor's string line, like you will find down at the hardware store.

They say it comes with a built in spool. Unless you are going to unroll it into a bucket or pail, you are likely to accumulate all the kinks in the rope that are caused by unspooling it off the side. I recommend getting a "cube" to store it in, although a clean 5 gallon pail actually works a bit better, and is a lot cheaper. They just don't fold up out of the way.

I have another neighbor that buys and buys and buys. She'll do an inventory, see what is expired and give it to me. I have an industrial sized bottle of Vitamin C that expired 3+ years ago. Maybe, just maybe it has lost some of it's effectiveness, but is not harmful as I have been popping a couple a day, now several months now.
If she gives you a bottle of viagra there just may be a subliminal message hidden somewhere!

I used to walk around the woods with a manly swagger, chainsaw under one arm, axe under the other, big knife in the belt, helmet, gloves etc, I was the main man!
Then Santa bought me a bright pink high visibility vest! I now feel completely deflated, in all places.....

I think that you can take the “d” and the “man” out of woodsman and put an e on the end and what you are left with us how I feel!

Being new to all this, I balked at the $40 string cubes. I use a high tech cardboard box instead. It allows me to fold it up a bit for storage. I use the air bazooka to send the weight into the canopy. I can put it where I want in one attempt, mostly.

Somewhat related to the chainsaw:
Had to buy 10 gallon of hydraulic fluid for myself as my Xmas present.

Oil filter came loose on my 37 ton wood splitter right when I was into splitting 20 inch diameter oak as I held down the lever the ram stalled slightly like it had been doing previously so I just kept on holding down the lever, when the ram completely stopped I looked around and seen a big puddle of hydraulic oil in a low spot on the ground. Cost me $120 to refill the hydraulic tank. $12/gallon. If I had know that hyd fluid was that high I would have tried to strain the dirt before it got away. I felt bad that I sent fossil fuel back into the ground. (but I'm still not going electric YET.
Felt lucky I did not ruin the pump.

Speaking of electric. If they want to go electric I suggest they start with the border fence.

Years ago I converted a ramset device that uses a .22 cal shell to fire hardened nails into concrete so that it would fire a heavy bolt with string attached. Worked fine but couldn't be used anywhere where the sound of a gunshot would bother anyone. Did not get much use.
