Here's my dillema. I have a 1983 Chevy C30 Dually, has the 6.2l diesel engine. I rebuilt the engine and it has about 30,000 on it now. The truck will start fine when it is cold, but when it warms up and you shut it off it wont start after and the glow plugs don't kick on for that second or two they normally would to get them up to temperature. Anyone have an idea if that would be the. Mine has what looks to be a round solenoid with a round top with prongs into a wiring connector. I'm hoping some one has some eperience with this motor. Thanks in advance.

Having not worked on that year, from the hip there are 2 ideas that I have.

First, easiest, the temp/sensor may be reading too high for a glow-plug assist re-start (warm engine). The sensor might be telling the processor that it's a hot engine(?) Or a bad relay(?)

The second idea, if the re-build has 'leaner' injectors then the last, the rail (fuel-delivery system) might not be giving the engine enough base fuel to start? Checking anything that might starve fuel-delivery, like filters and the lift or line-pumps?

I don't know if that system can be tricked by holding your foot into it just a little?

But if your used to the GP's cycling at a warm start, and there not, my bet, a temp-sensor for a Dr. Pepper?

Well it always started good up until the last week or so when they started not coming on when warm. I'll have to look into the glow plug system.

I have a 1990 F350 with 7.3 powerstroke. I'm no mechanic at all so, I'm just repeating what my mechanic told me is the problem with my truck...

My truck requires at least two cranking cycles regardless of temperature -warm or hot. It will never start on the first crank unless it has been running within the past 2-3 hours and is still hot.

I was told that I have an injector leak and the engine is sucking air instead of fuel in that injector so it takes 2 cycles to get enough fuel into the engine (I hope I said that right). Originally, they thought it was a glow plug problem but, they're cycling just fine.

Maybe you have a tiny fuel leak at your pump or at an injector?

Like I said, I'm no mechanic. This advise might be completely off base but, who knows... :monkey:
