Difference in 245a and 5200?

I am hoping you grizzled veterans can tell me what are the differences between the 245a and the 5200? Performance, weight, ability to modify? I'm hoping to hot rod my newly acquired 5200 and I was hoping you all could point in the right direction as where to go as far as performance parts.

Won't modified the 5200, parts are hard to come by

Only modification I would do to the 5200 would be to install a 4200 carburetor on it. These saws were made for torque and not high RPMs. Previous owner they have already changed out the carburetor just have to look and see if it has a check valve plug on the side

The 245a is lighter but .7 ci smaller, not to mention based on design the 5200 is superior in every way.

Why switch to a 4200 carb?

No so call rev limiter in the 4200 carb like the 5200 has. They give a little problem when the carb gets old, like it is now. Some folks block the passage off with a thin piece of aluminum and reinstall the plug. I just use a 4200 carb and don't have any problems.

Does my 5200 have that governor that dumps fuel in when it detects a certain rpm ? I wastold my 245 a had that. Are they the same carb?
