I've had bad luck with the oiler mechanisms/designs on several saws.

I'd like to know which brand you guys think has the best, most reliable automatic oiler and why. What are the differences between the oiler designs on the different brands, and why is one better than another?

Thanks

Well sir, this could get interesting .Although no longer made,in my opinion the larger McCulloch impulse driven piston oilers are by far the best ever made. They will oil any length bar the praticular saw was designed to use.The worst by far is the pressured oil tanks used on Poulans.

Gear driven Stihls are OK but some times lack the volume needed for longer bars.Depending on how many people respond to this thread ,you could get many opinions on this subject. Some will be,like myself, with praticle knowledge of the subject at hand and some by pure speculation with no knowledge of the subject at hand.Sit back, enjoy, they will be waking up soon.

I dont think one brand has "the best" oiler.
The Stihls I have ran all oiled well. The Husky 372 oils well, but the 346 is only so so. The dolmar 7900 has a lousy oiler.

If by "Best" you mean sheer volume of oil pumped, that little ECHO I just fixed wins hands down!

A 30cc saw that will pump a full quart of oil on one tank of fuel?:dizzy:

Heck, if that's the measure, I vote for an 011! It will pump the entire tank if you leave it idling for 1/2 hour!

Most modern olier do exatly what they are suppoed to do. Not eveyone likes the "less" oil put out my the later models, but..

If you use old engine oil, no oiler will last.

Husqvarna has the best oil because it is so well made, IMHO. Just remember to clean the saw and not let it get all clogged up. You can't blame the oiler if this happens, usually with a dull chain that is making lots of saw dust instead of chips.

For automatic I think the oiler on the Mac SP125 is the best that I have seen, but for manual I like the Poulan super 72 since it pumps alot of oil and easy to service.

I can't tell you who makes the best oiler, but I'm thinking Poulan's Wild Thing has the worst oiler on the market. I've been through two of them already this year, catch one little weed, it follows the chain back to the oiler and it's history...P.O.S.

I've had it with the wild thing, used to think it was a pretty good saw, but since I got more serious about cutting firewood, invested in a couple of good Stihls, the poulan is ready for the landfill i'm thinkin'.

I might make a go cart out of it for the kids or something.:chainsawguy:

Check out the attached bulletin on oiler update for the 346 and others. We have updated quite a few 353s and a few 346s with this new pump with good results.
