I am thinking of buying a 7300 or 7900 Dolmar how do they compare to the husky 575xp? On paper they sound way lighter, are they truly as light as the say on their specs? According to the literature they have tons more hp than the huskys and a lot lighter...How good are they?

The rated weight of the 7300 & 7900 in N America is 13.8lbs. In Europe they are called 13.6lbs with the smaller spike bars. Customers tell me that the 7900 is just as strong or stronger than the Husq 385 even with 6cc's less engine (79cc vs 85cc).

No hands-on experience with a 7300, but lots with the 6400/6401 and the 7900; they're on the same physical platform. Depending on how you like saws to feel in your hands, you may prefer the balance and feel of the Dolmar over the Husqvarna even without considering the weight savings.

In terms of power, they have superb HP but where they really shine relative to their competitors is in the torque department. Comparing performance, the 7900 will walk all over the 575, and should be noticeably lighter, too. They have a LOT of grunt!

If you're looking for a good saw in the 70-80cc class, you cannot find a better saw than these Dolmars. Bone stock or with a mild muffler mod, you will have one nice saw for a hell of a good price!

Dan, are pulling our leg a little with your posts?

Sorry guys not trying to pull any legs...Here's the deal...I have a new 575xp and I have not used it yet. If I don't use it, my dealer will gladly trade up for a bigger saw. If I use it, then I'm stuck with it, or get a hell of a lot less money for it...I have a 357xp now and want something with more power for the big oaks...thanks guys...

Seems like you are determined to trade in your 575. Okay here's what I think.

First you got to spend more time cutting (than ASing).

Second you are fretting about getting a big enough saw. With that in mind I will guess that you will continue to fret about it. If you could get cash back for the the 575 (which is a decent saw) I would say do so and get a 7900 for the extra power over the 357. If you have to stick to Husky with the dealer, get a 390xp. I love my 395, but it is very heavy and so I have a 371 and a couple of 7900's so I don't have to get it out if I don't need it. Or if you want a Stihl, get a 660 which is lighter but not nearly as smooth.(But more popular here on AS.)

As some point you got to just play your cards and cut some wood. Your tastes in saws will evolve anyway, so get some more cutting time under your belt and let life find it's way to you.

Thanks b turner for the information. I don't mind keeping the 575xp IF it can handle the big hardwood???? I have a 357 and not overly impressed with it's power, not sure if the 575 will only be a tad more powerful....

If you don't get the 7900 you will always wish you had. Every time you run the 575 you will wish it was a 7900.

Its sad to see the potential unhappiness waiting to happen. :hmm3grin2orange:

Sure looks that way to me.
Sorry to hear that you bought 2 new saws and are not happy with them. I would be really depressed!
How big are these big oaks you speak of?
I sure like my 357xp, blazes through any hard wood I would want for firewood.

Are you serious? I think I understand...

Hi Dan:

I cut wood up here in New England too. Not far from you to be exact, and the Oak and Hickory that I run into are easily tamed with my 60cc saw. But, I run it with a 16" bar as often as possible.
I understand your disappointment with the 357, I put a really sharp chain onto my 026 and it bit so good into the hardwood that it slowed way down until I got better with it. Just took some practice.
But with the 036, and a 20" bar when needed, switching back to a 16" bar as often as possible, I have never had it slow down in the wood. You are talking about getting a pretty heavy saw. I see you are a teacher full time, save your back man... There is no sense blowing your back over a chainsaw or firewood for that matter. Unless you want to cut through that bigger oak in record time, the 575 with a really sharp chain should impress you after break in. My father is a Husky guy, and his 372 is great in the wood. I wish you luck Dan.

They are lighter than the 575xp, but a bit heavier than Dolmar claims, while the 575 actually are a tad lighter than Husky claims....confused?????...:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

The claimed weight for the Dolmars is 6.2 kg, but they weight 6.4 according to KWF/DLG test reports.

The claimed weight for the 575xp is 6.8 kg, but they weight 6.7 according to KWF/DLG test reports.

So the actual weight difference is about 2/3 of a pound, according to those test reports.........

Even the 7300 will beat the 575xp with some margin according to the same tests, but if you go Dolmar, there is no reason to not take the 7900.

dolmar 7900 weighs

full of fuel and bar oil 19lbs 12 oz. with 20 inch bar full comp full chisel new chain. Or atleast I am pretty sure what I posted in the thread earlier this month

If your not racing it or a full time pro logger you really don't have any need to trade in your 575. The bad rap that your 575 gets is because the 372 that it was meant to replace was flat out just a better saw, probably nothing you would notice unless you used one for 8 hours a day for a living. If you want the saw to work for you it will. It will cut big timber, and it will run all day long.
