I had a bunch of first saws since Dad was in the business he was in love with homelites. My first topping saw was a homelite e-z automatic must have weighed about 18lb with 16" bar. First one I bought for myself was a Poulan pro s25da. Bright yellow and new out of the box. First day with saw on the job I was up about 35' in sycamore and went to clip it to belt and missed. Watched it bounce through limbs and land in the road. Broke the handle. Brought it back to dealer he had silly grin on his face but he put new handle on it and saw was ok. Used it for years after that and never dropped it again:) . Still have it, do not climb with anymore just take it for a ride to jobs now. I guess if my 020t dies I have a backup;)

The first saw I ever owned is my 026. Got it for $200.00. It came with a six pack of oil and a gallon of bar oil that the original owner bought with the saw. 5 full bottles of mix and a little more than 1/2 gallon of oil, let's just say it had low hours.

In 1988 propane hit a doller a gallon. I grew up by a wood stove and thought it sucked. When I grew up and had to start paying for my own propane wood cutting did not seem like such a bad deal. My first saw was a 670 jonsered. I still have it and still runs like new. Been about 16 years since I used propane to heat my house.

Poo lon Micro XXV Deluxe

Steve here...
Still have my first saw. i have the original owners manual, my dad found while cleaning out old files. The manual is dated 4/78... I was 16 when we got it. Still has the original bar and chain on it.
I use it for cutting the bottom off the Christmas tree, and for cutting up skids.

It was the same as Steve's, a Poulan Micro. Yes I still have it and the original manual. His bar looks much better as mine has went through many bars. I guess I should clarify my first saw that was mine was a Poulan Micro. My father paid for it as I had not earned enough money yet. The first saw I paid for was a Homelite SEZ and yes I still have it too.

As for propane prices. It hit $1.41 here and we had to buy it.

My first was a brand new McCulloch Pro Mac 10 10, thought I was a LOGGER. Fought with that thing for 11 yrs until I traded it in on a Sachs=Dolmar 115i. Talk about night and day difference, could cut with the Sachs for more than 30 minutes without my hands going numb. Still got the 115i, still love it.

A Homelite XL12, used it for a lot of years until it just plain wore out. Then I bought one of those new plastic saws. That old Homelite always made me nervous when I would refill the gas tank while it was still hot and the gas would boil.

Che [what kind of name is that?...]

How do I answer that one? I've asked my father the same thing, he just said it was better than calling me 'little sh!t'. Thanks dad.

My first saws (only a few years ago) were the Jonsered 2036, nice little saw...and the Sachs-Dolmar 116si (really my husband's saw.) I couldn't use the Dolmar very long...but I just had to lift it up to the log and let it do the rest so it served its purpose.

I haven't used either this year....the Shindaiwa 488 is light enough for limbing, and big enough to go through the largest hedge (osage orange) we've got.

My first chainsaw was a Jonsereds 451ev with heated handles! Sweet saw! Sold it to my grandad who still uses it today. My dads first saw was a crosscut, but his first gas saw was a David Bradely.
