I've used a Lockjack for 5 or 6 years. Pros (for me) are that since I have it attached to the saddle with an 18" piece of prussic cord I'm pulling slack from the tail side of the Lockjack and there's no slack tending. When I get to a work position I clip it close to the saddle. Cons are bulk, and the really big one for me is that it tends slack even when you don't want it to so in working mode, where you'd probably leave slack with a hitch setup to allow movement, the Lockjack is always "slackless" and restricts movement so every time you make a move you have to reach up and slack the Jack, so to speak. Since the tail often runs back over limbs and at acute angles to the LJ it's not always as simple as pulling the handle. Sometimes it feels like your in Lockjack prison. The only other complaint I have is that sometimes the fine sawdust from working oak trees will make it creep. I also use the ART lanyard positioner and I love that. No complaints.

Whoa, wait. I thought you said you were the dinosaur and couldn't teach me any new tricks.....I am still climbing on the trusty old tautline! Isn't that the dinosaur knot?

I use them all daily ...

I've used a LockJack Sport for years but this year I added a SpiderJack and a Positioner. I resisted the SpiderJack because you can't install it mid-line, but after getting one I love it despite that drawback. I use it with Imori rope and love it. Sometimes I put it on a short (60') rope for a compact easy handling while using the LockJack on a longer rope. I also have a Unisender (not an A.R.T. product) but hardly ever use it now.

I also bought a positioner which is very similar to the SpiderJack in it's smoothness of release under tension. I really find it useful although I still carry my wire core flip line because it "flips" better. I'm going to replace the 10' line that came with it with a 20 or 30 footer to give it greater reach and make it sort of a mini ascender when I'm not using it as a positioner.

They are all great products and you will only regret not getting them sooner.

I've tried many variations of adjuster on my flip-line. That all ended when I bought the ART Positioner, IMO it's the best adjuster out there.

Geez, I didn't know you were on here. I'll have to fire up my negative rep machine and start blasting. I have to admit that I have about every climbing device ever invented because I'm so inept I'm always looking for the magic easy climber. The Wraptor is about as close as I've come. You're welcome to try any of them that you want.
My heal hurts like I have a stone in my shoe so I'm not working today. Got to go to Willoughby to look at a some giant oak that I have not intention of doing and buy some more plywood. Curse this rain.
What's a tautline?

I'm with you there SW ~ I've got to get a Wraptor ~ I could throw away my gaffs.

Tautline : It's the rope the Great Wallenda fell off of when he was 73 years old. I hope I don't come to the end of my rope before then.

I wished I lived closer to you small wood, because i would diffenently take you up on that. I just bought the stuff for a vrt setup, so i am gonna give that a try. I would really hate to buy a art and then not like it. That happened to me two years ago. I bought one of the petzel id, thinking it would be great. It is the cats a** for going down, but a royal pain in the a** to go up without either fighting to tension the rope or install a pully for a directional above the id.

I didnt even think about that. When I stopped rock climbing I sold my whole trad rack on there. I even sent stuff over seas. Maybe if i get to expo, I can try one out up there. At least kinda try it.

I love my spiderjack 2, awesome 2nd TIP when spur climbing, limb walking, great for decending out of tree, going up,.....but words of caution, make sure and practice with it before using on job, takes awhile to get used to, like desending.....
