i have a customer who has 2 dogwood growing about 15 feet apart . they are about 5 years old and 5 inches in dia. both trees bloomed the first year they were planted and have never bloomed since . right now they have the beginning of a small bloom that looks like it will never really blossom. all the other dogwoods in our area are in full blossom . does anyone know why these trees are not blooming ?..there are many other dogwoods nearby that are in full bloom thanx dark

soil compaction? possibly stressed from nearby distruption of roots or soil? girdeling (sp) / string trimmer damage? just and idea...

Check soil for excessive moisture, could be drowning, was burlap and wire removed or lowered when tree were planted, could be girdling. If the other dogwoods were put in the same time is there any size difference? Any other type trees around immediate area? Are they blooming and healthy?

How about light. full sun?, part shade? full shade. Could be saving energy for root growth. Or slow acclimation.

I would agree on checking the soil or roots, but I am not sure what for other than planting depth. There was a section of Quincy IL where the nurserys would not guarantee a dogwood although they did fine in the rest of the city. I do not know that I ever heard why they would not grow there, it was just a fact that was accepted.
