Hmmmmm. So if there wasn't a Stihl dealer conveniently close to you and you wanted a 361 you'd bad-mouth their policies also? I think you may have gotten the wrong idea about Dolmar, Husky and Stihl. Dolmar and Stihl have the good sense to actually protect their dealers. Husky has limited the sale of their equipment via internet marketing but the bigger retailers such as Bailey's are allowed to continue the sales and that works for Husky.

If you want a Dolmar you'll probably have to go to a dealer or develop a good relationship with one of the fine dealers on this forum that can hook you up with maybe a Demo saw at a discount. If that isn't in your budget or you are not comfortable with that scenario then Husky is THE way to go. You might want to just stop in at your local Husky dealer and give them a chance to impress you with a saw before you click the mouse on your new purchase.

As for PRICE comparison, no one is stopping you from calling a few Dolmar dealers and getting a quote. If you want to start dickering for the best deal then as a dealer I'd like to see a little more effort. If a customer calls me on the phone and asks me for the best price on a piece of equipment I tell them the list price....it's our best PHONE price. If the same person comes to our location, looks at the equipment, and is actually interested in a purchase (has funds or is qualified for credit) then of course I'm willing to try and meet their expectations. If someone is just calling around looking for the cheapes unit...they are more than welcome to buy the cheapest thing they can find.

We do not argue with those who sell for less, they know what their priduct and service is worth.

You missed the point totally but I'm not in the least bit surprised :bang: I'm not a game player when purchasing chainsaws or autos and to set the record straight, I never Bad Mouthed anyones policies. Yes, I shop but look for service and price but also for for a dealer with integrity and an appreciation of customer service. I'm not looking to beat anyone down to the last cent but there is no use in paying someone 50 dollars more for the same product delivered to your door. IMO it seems that you have the attitude of I'm the Big Bad Dolmar Dealer (with exclusive territory and fiefdom) and those little p*** ant customers better not mess with me. You are about a 5 hour drive from me but don't wait by the phone for my call :D for if I do buy Dolmar it won't be in Illinois or from you. Just by chance did you ever work for Mayor Daley

I was merely pointing out that Dolmar and Stihl both have the same policy on their equipment as to really requiring a FTF purchase. I'm sorry that there is not a Dolmar dealer in your area. Like many other Dolmar dealers, I'd love to see more coverage so that people have more choice in their equipment purchases.

And yes, you simply stated in your earlier post "...but a FTF sale in 2007 is ridiculous. I buy most of my items via the net and have them delivered to my door." If the policy is not agreeable to you and their isn't a Dolmar dealer in your area that is convenient then maybe another brand would be better suited especially if / when you need parts and service support that may come up in the future.

I'm sure that I'm not alone thinking that your response to my post was a little quick tempered and I'm sorry if I offended you. I'm not the Big Bad Dealer, we're a local shop and Dolmar saws make up a very tiny portion of our sales. We always offer some incentive for purchases to get the name and equipment out there. We have 3 or 4 other Dolmar dealers in my area also so there isn't really any exclusivity.

As for a saw purchase. I'd be very suspicious of a $50.00 price difference on a 5100S Dolmar. You'd probably find a dealer that would be more than willing to sell you a saw for around $425.00 and throw in a spare chain, some bar oil and maybe even a case-kit IF they had a special going or were able to swing that.

Anyway, it's always hard to deal with people through text as certain expressions and gestures get left out. If you feel the need to be extremely rude though after my apology then I'm very glad that you won't be calling me but if you feel the need to drive 5 hours to make a point, I'm sure that we could settle this argument like men.......... :chainsawguy:

(I was thinking chainsaw race......then roll down to the local watering hole and try to kill some brain cells to forget what we disagreed over  )

Well if that's an apology, then I accept but it wasn't required, for I'm a big boy and can stand the heat in the kitchen. ;) There aren't any local dealers and with 3+ dollar gas prices, cruising the hood until you find a Dolmar dealer just doesn't cut it for me. I've called several in state dealers and they do not stock these saws. Kind of defeats the purpose of protected territory. This is not a logging state and big suppliers are not to be found here. I understand the frustration of a Mom & Pop store but everyone has to adapt to survive. My philosophy has always been, I'd rather sell 10 widgets with a smaller profit margin than sell only 2 over priced widgets and make less. Volume will win hands down every time and that customer may actually refer other customers and or buy from me the next time. Good fortune in your business dealings.

You pointed out THE biggest problem for Dolmar. Dealers that don't stock enough equipment. Sadly, I'm out of 5100s right now but luckily we have a few weeks before saw season ramps up.

Dolmar DOES have a nice dealer locator on their website. I'm glad to see that you are a big-boy and can take a little back and forth from us here. We all gotta have thick skin to play on this forum for sure.

first dolmar

I picked up my 5100s 20" b/c today for 480$ canadain 0r 520$ with tax. I tried the little bugger at the dealer and I can only descride the saw as "angry." I'm going to put a full day in tommorow with it.
I wish I had ordered it with a 24" BC for blocking down, although the dealer was not sure weather it can be fitted with that. Any expereicne with that from you folks?
This long time smaller husky dealer just recently took on dolmar in my area. He was surprised I came in for a dolmar chain saw; he had previously refused to stock the saws certian there would be no interest. I let him now based on reports from sites like this, dolmar saws are going to be in demand.
Im planning on purchasing the 7900 in the coming weeks to replace my 660 when chunking bigger stuff. Should be just under a grand with a 28 B/C.

Well finally got my demo from a friend who was kind enough to bring his Dolmar's over to cut up a downed tree for me. Friends, what more can I say :greenchainsaw:

All I can say is that the Dolmar 7900 & 5100 Kick A**

Now to buy a pair of the Dolmar's for my use ;)

Thanks to this forum, I now know the secret Dolmar handshake so it's just a matter of trading $$'s for the saws.

Great Forum with lots of Good Advice but like most forums got to sift out the BS :chainsaw: and the Talkers from the Walkers :D
