Cut this weekend "briefly..." with my new Dolmar 5100s. Made (6) cuts in about 12" wood. Chain was completely hosed, which seemed really odd. At closer inspection, I believe that the oiler is not working properly, it is oiling... but very little? I am very particular about keeping chain out of dirt etc. Saw was VERY smooth. Wish I could have cut longer, but because Dolmar has "goofy" sized bars, I didn't have any extra chains. Anyone have a Dolmar 5100s running aftermarket bars with any success? And the bar was very HOT when I quite cutting.

Thanks

P.S. I will contact the dealer on this, but wanted some un-biased help as well to see if I can't just figure this out without sending the saw back.

goofy sized bars? All Dolmar branded bars made in the last 10 years or so are oregon bars....

Same bars that come on most husky's too.

Did you adjust the oiler. It is adjustable, you know?

I have ran a Oregon Powermatch on mine as well as a GB ProTop with no problems in bar/chain size or oiling issues.

Oregon

I ordered an Oregon Powermatch last week, I use them on other saws as well. But had nothing for that bar mount. But I had also been told that the bar from my 359/357xp should work. The hole in the bar is MUCH larger that the "post" that sticks into the bar to adjust the chain tension? Seemed a lot sloppier than anything I have seen before. And Unofortunately I got the 5100s out at the end of the day after a Big battle with a 4' diam by 22' red Oak log that a neighbor didn't want to tackle. I cut a couple small thinks with the 5100s and was pleased until....

Hopefully I will get that powermatch bar soon from Baileys and I will give it another try. Thanks for your input.

Try the bar from your 346xp. That bar should be the same as the 357 and the 5100. The oregon # is a KO95 series bar.

Sometimes the hole for the chain adjuster is bigger/smaller with aftermarket bars. As long as the slot for the bar studs are the proper size, the chain adjustment hole size shouldn't matter.

Rydaddy, I had a chance to cut with a brand new 5100 at a GTG last fall. The stock, factory chain was some kind of safety chain that didn't cut at all. Once the Dolmar rep replaced the chain with a regular chain, the saw cut like a demon, and was super smooth.

I think it would be a problem if the hole was smaller and would require enlarging it to accomodate the adjuster? Also its always a good idea to make sure the oiler holes are in the right place/vicinity if you're using a bar other than the recommended ones. Just my 0.02$ fer da morning. :)

bar trouble?

Check to see if the hole the oil feeds through to the bar rails is not clogged up with a heavy coating of paint. It happens sometimes at the factory. I use a torch tip cleaner or a very small drill bit to drill it out a little bigger. If you use a small drill bit go easy because the small bits are very easy to break if you force/twist/bend them. If I'm not mistaken the oil hole is at an angle towards the tail of the bar and not strait in. One other thing, flip the bar and check the oil feed hole on the other side, every bar should have two and if one got painted over the other probably did too. It sounds more like a dull chain but check it out anyway.

Thanks!

Geofore, Thank You! I laughed at myself yesterday in the field when I took the bar off and was trying to find out where and how well the oil was even coming out of that hole. But given my "amatuer" status, I did not have adequate knowledge as to what my next step was. Thanks!
