Hi gang,
Just as a followup , the used 540 started giving me problems after milling about half way through an ash log . I got disgusted with buying used saws and ending up with everyones problems and found a dolmar dealer in town who gave me a good deal on a new 510 . He recommended a 3/8 skip chain . After milling these 2 logs it will be a firewood saw so why spend all the extra money .
The 510 is a darn good running saw it has all the power and no clutch slippage . All through the milling process the saw ran like a champ , maybe the hand-guard plastic piece is'nt perfectly matched up . I figure if you are busy looking at the hand guard you'r not doing much sawing.
I'm sold , If I were to do more milling I would git a 6400 or bigger brute.
Here are some pictures of the oak log I milled !!

Quite the punishment on ANY saw, especially a small one. Slow going I am sure. No doubt that 510 is definitely broke in now! Nice pictures - what are you going to use the wood for?

Thanks
Yes It was slow going , I probably won't be ripping anymore with the saw it should have plenty of life left in it for occasional crosscutting.
As for what I'm going to make with 95 bf of red oak , I don't know yet , I have at least a year to decide.
I had a very unusual and unique opportunity and would have regretted passing it up . We had a sever ice storm the first of this year , It was a national disaster . As a result we had a lot of downed trees and tree limbs we were out of power city wide for at least a week. A neighbor up the street had some oak trees down . How often in the city dose the opportunity occur to cut a down tree out of the brush and skid it to your driveway and saw it up ?? :D
