I purchased a PS7900 online and it came in yesterday. I was really looking forward to it, but then I looked at the underside of the saw. Its mostly plastic...what houses the gas tank and connects to the back handle. Before I send it back, has anyone used one and had it hold up? I afraid I'm going to bust out the plastic under-belly my first time using the saw. Please let me know what experience you have had with the Dolmar PS7900. I have heard good things about them, but now I don't know. Thanks.

repost this question below in the chainsaw forum....i've heard nothing but good things about the 7900, but i've never run one .

I own one. It is a great saw. it is time to rethink things-plastic used to mean cheap and shoddy. It IS cheaper than metal but modern plastics are actually more durable than many alloys.

Take it out and run it, your not going to hurt it unless you drive over it with truck or drop it from a tree or try to horse it out of a pinched cut instead of using a wedge.

Plastic makes saws lighter than the metal ones and you don't have the problems like the metal ones where the metal would pit and might leak gas or oil or would pit the crankcase and the saw would not run right.
