Is the quality of a dolmar 7900 as good as or better then say a stihl 460 or husqvarna 385? I have done a search and I found they have as much or more power then the other 2 saws. The only bad thing I have found bad about them is some guys are having problems with the oiler and that they had a recall on the 7900 for the handle I beleave.

From the two dolmar saws I have owned, I would say quality easily compares to the other two. I know a couple of people had oiler problems on the 7900's awhile ago but I havent heard of any recent ones. Maybe ask TonyM or Dolmar Tech Manager. I think the recall was on the flywheel. The 5100 and 7900 are the standouts in the dolmar line as far as power, weight, and price. With the excellent power of the 7900 and substantial weight savings over the other two, I think it is a no brainer in this class.

I was going to post but Brent pretty much summed up my feelings!

I cant say about the Husky, but I have wore out three 46/460s and own one 7900 that has 600+ hrs. on it now. The 460 is an excellent saw but I like the 7900 better. I would guess quality wise they are the same but I am sold on the Dolmar for this size saw. The only drawback I can think of is if you want/need a full wrap handle bar. I am surprised there is not an after market one yet, or a factory option. One thing that I found interesting on the Dolmar is that not one screw/bolt has ever loosened up on it. That is something that I cant say about any other new saw that I have owned.
Only problem that I have had with the Dolmar is a throttle return spring broke. But that is a Zama carb problem that turned out to be not a problem as I got one off of a dead Stihl.

I would imagine with a little fab work and a full-wrap handle off of a Husky or Stihl this could be overcome!

Rich, it seems to work fine to me. I use the flock ones. Knock a bit of stuff from the underside of it once or twice a day, then change out to a washed one every week or so. I guess they get all the air it needs and it is easier for me to clean than my Stihls.

When I had my 7900 I thought the filter stayed clean as long as my 372 and cleaner than my Stihls. The filter is smallish, but clogging was never a issue for me.
The oiler was a differant story.....
