It is frustrating to work with people like that. I bet they are not open to new things either.

They give you flack for using the DFL or for using a VT?

IMO the DFL is the best termination knot you can tie.

I would think guys from big orange would give you flack for having and using a carabiner. I would never even expect them to even recognize a DFL or a VT.

No offense intended to any big orangers out there.

I use the DFL for the rope snaps on my flipline. I know it's not recomended on rope snaps, because once it is loaded it's hard to untie, but I don't need to untie them. I prefer it to the anchor or buntline because the tail exits out along the line instead of sticking out of the side. Nice and neat.

Who recommends not using the DFL on rope snaps?

I use the DFL as well, even though that isnt the correct name for it. A DFL is a loop tied end to end, also called a grapevine. There has been some conversation about its name.

THe TCC doesnt recommend using it with a snap? I dont remember reading that but its fine in my book.

Yeah, I use it on the snap too. The book said it's very difficult to untie after it's loaded. After loading a biner you can take the biner off and there will be a little slack so you can untie it. ...ummm I think that's what it said. I'll double check and kick myself in the butt if I'm wrong.

Lumberjack, you're confusing the double fisherman's knot (grapevine) with the double fisherman's loop. The knot is for making a prusik, the loop is for connecting to hardware.

here's pic to clarify

double fisherman is one of best termination knots available. add one more loop, it becomes triple fisherman knot. possibly most secure bent known.

pictured top to bottom:

1. beer knot
2. triple fisherman termination knot on biner. note wrap keeps ends neat only.
3. double fisherman knot as backup knot for a figure eight.

disclaimer: never use internet as your sole source of info. find a competent instructor to learn from.

On Weds. the ANSI Z133 committee voted to only allow cinch-type rope connections to biners and the eyes on rope snaps. Get ready to eliminate bowlines and other loop knots. Start to get familiar with anchor bends, buntlines and the double fisherman's loop or sometimes called a scaffold hitch.

not open to anything new, they swear the tautline is the best friction hitch. i hate it personally.

They say don't use it cause its hard to untie. I use it on my snap on the end of my climbing line with one of the plastic ferrels, i usually wrap it 4 times instead of 2 tho. then tape the end to the line to keep it neat.

yeah good knot

I use the DFL for vt ends , flipline end(onto biner) and as my tie on knot on lifeline. I like that it can pull out if groundie forgets to undo knot before pulling down line.Suposse i should learn to splice ..... I think tom D introed me to it some time ago.
