So you guys are experts on this log milling thing. The Southeast just got hit hard with storms and there are lots of trees down. How long can say a pine or oak lay on the ground before it is unfit to put on the mill and make decent lumber out of. Never gonna be able to get to all of them quick enough but just was curious what you guys thought was limits. A year or 2? Thanks in advance.

I've milled logs that have been on the ground for over three years...but that is the kind of wood I'm looking for for my market. Heavily spalted and bug holed pecan......

If I'm looking for complete solid wood, I'll knock the tree down myself and slab it there on the spot. Taking the slabs and sticking them under cover and off the ground.
