Amoungst My Saws........Fool That Has Too Many!!!
I finally got the chance to run the new Dolmar PP7900 built by Dozerdan. To say that I was impressed would be a very big understatement. This saw is just too sick to put into words. The speed, torque and power throughout the whole RPM range is simply phenomenal!!! I had a Solo 694 ( that I also recently bought ) along on the job. The 7900 outcut the 694. Understand that I based this on seat-of-the-pants performance, I didn't time anything. Modded saws: what a rush. Thanx Dan!!!

dan's7900's

Rich, did you get how quiet that saw is? Not the loud exhaust noise I was expecting and get from the green one I'm retiring. The low vibration is Sooo nice. You going to get another one to keep the first one company? The skip, semi chisel chain I have is two links short to try today, I'll have to get some Tuesday. Full comp does a good job.

Rich,George
It sounds like you guys need some new avatars.Maybe Rich can find a Frankenstein one.
Those saws do come out on the quiet side even with the dual ports and the internal baffles opened up.
You will need 105 drive links for that bar.I looked for some skip or semi skip chain to fit that longer bar but none of my local dealer or I had any.How did the little saw pull the full comp chain in large wood? Call Jeff he will fix you up with some skip chains.
Now you need some good Art Martin chains.

3/8 .050 Skip chain

George,
I have 500' + of 3/8 .050 skip, full chisel round ground and already have 8 or so already made up in 105dl loops- so just let me know. PM Me.

Dan,
Rich has me interested in a Modified 7900 now. Debating as I originally was planning to get my 372xp done soon after I get my 346xp back from you- so I don't know which to have done now (also throw in the mix the Makita 7301). So I'll be getting with you to get your opinion on that- the 372xp modded vs the 7900 modded.

quiet saw

One of the guys said he thought I was running one of the little saws from the sound until he saw how fast the trees were being upset. He was impressed. I like the saw. Now to try three or four different styles of chain on it and see what it'll really do in the wood.

saws

Mine runs like a big saw and cuts faster but is nowhere near the ear blasting I'd get from the old Green Meany or Big Blue, not even as loud as the neighbor's 044 or my brother's 038 Mag. You get these guys who come out and want to race your new saw, then they want to use it after they see it run. I let them cut a lillypad but the saw goes home with me. Rich, they said, "WOW!".

HI
Those PP7900s don't make near as much noise as a PP372 or the PP385s.It must be do to the larger muffler volume. The overall dimensions of the mufflers are larger then most of the other saws. They actually use three bolts to hold the muffler to the barrel.
Ok you two,now that you have had the opportunity to run those saws. Are those tiny air filters a problem or do they stay rather clean?
George
I think you need a Green Meany avatar, maybe the Incredible Hulk.It would look good with Richs Frankenstein. What size is your green saw?
Jeff
Why does a Solo dealer have a Dolmar avatar? LOL

I actually didn't run the saw long enough to say one way or the other. At the rate that I clean the air filter on any of my saws, which is every 2 or 3 times out, this whole debate about filter size is moot!

Dan,
My question is will the PP7900 run with the PP372?
Let me know when you go north.

According to what Dan told me, the Dolmar 7900 runs stronger than a Husky 385! so I would think that a PP7900 runs stronger than a PP372!

Dan, you are needed on this one!

I think that my 066 mag is headed for the classifieds!

I have never done an exact test( same bar length and chain) of my Walkerized 372 versus my stock 066, dual port muffler (rated 7.7 hp versus today's model about 7.1), but the 372 was faster by a bit the one time I compared them. Likely the 066 would win if both had 32-36 inch bars on. And a Walkerized 372 is slower than a fully built woods 372 by either of our three esteemed resident builders.

Anyhow, assume the 7900 gained 30% in hp, which might equate to 30% faster cut times. The hp would be about 7.9, way above a stock 066. And if its gains were as impressive as with the 385 Husky, which some report at close to 50%, well, then.....

So geofore, sounds like you too have a PP 7900... i thought Rich has the first one!!

Hey Dan, how's my 338 coming?? I'm excited!!

Excellent, rich!! You posted that while I was typing----I'm slower than JPS cause I correct all my mixcakes.

Guess Dan'll just have to build me one.

Eric
A PP7900 will outcut a PP372 or a 385 in larger wood.In smaller wood you really cant see that much of a difference. That's one of the reasons that a PP346 will cut close to a stock 044.There is enough chain speed there to be competitive in the smaller log.If you increase the size of the log then the larger engines rule.
I did witness one slow PP372 make 3 cuts in a Poplar 10/10 cant that was about 1.5 seconds slower then a built 090 with a super good chain. If the log size was to increase, you would see more of a difference in the times.
Rich
You guys don't need me on this one,you already answered it.If your 066 is headed for the classified adds, that about says it all.

The first PP7900 is still here,I built that one for myself.I built number two for George and number three for Rich. They received both saws on the same day.
Now about the 338.
First we called to make sure they had them in stock. They said no problem,I could have them in 3 days.
I ordered 2 of them a 357 and 2, 372s.
They back ordered the 338s?
I called and checked to see what the heck was up.
Their reply was that the have a problem with the 338s.It seems that the top handles are get exceptionally hot and that they also have a cyl.cooling problem. All of the 338s are now sent back to Sweden.
I asked about a new 335
No the 335s, are all gone
I do have some 334s
Or I can send you a refund.
Let me know what you prefer.
What a bummer.

Dan
