DT466 questions.

Looking at a 95 int chip dump with 250K on the clock. Motor work done with 0 mileage includes new liners ,injectors,head gasket ,oil pan gasket,all filters. I'm looking to get 2-5 years out of this vehicle with relatively low maintenance costs, with yearly mileage between 8-12K. Cost is between 5-6K$ and has what looks to be a 25 yard box on it. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Dt 466 is a great engine. If whoever rebuilt it did it right it should last another 250k miles.

Thanks. The research I've done has lead me to believe the same thing. It's 9 hours away from my location, so I need to know it's tight before I commit. Anything else to look out for?
 
I would try to find out who did the work and call them.
 
The DT466 is a millon mile engine, even if it is abused and not well cared for.
I have a friend who does asphalt repair and seal coating. He has two IH trucks with the DT466 engine. They are both early to mid 80's models. He only services them maybe once/year, and does nothing else unless they break down. And, they almost never break down. I would jump on that deal. If you can talk to the rebuild shop, that would probably ease your mind.

Talked to the shop this am. The guy was really helpful by offering to go back out and look the truck over to make sure it's ready for the 10 hour trip back to the Bean. its lookin g good so far..
