I'm not at that financial level yet, but I have completely different items that I carry with me depending on if I'm removing or trimming.
Handsaw, extra biners and loop runners when trimming; heavier lanyard, rigging pulleys when removing.
I will probably use two different saddles by the end of the year. Gonna buy my T-2 gaffs first, as soon as Sherrill gets them in. Then my LockJack, more ascenders, pulleys, GRCS, Tufflex slings, more biners........
Heck, just send me two of everything in the Sherrill catalog! :dizzy:

Brian, You've convinced me that I NEED a pantin and a handled ascender-I'll get those when I get past the winter financial disaster. 2 of everything in the Sherril catalog sounds great-0h shoot!, make it a half dozen! If I could afford that I could retire!:D

I use a linemans belt on some quick and dirty jobs.
Don Blair has the leg straps that will adapt to a linemans belt that allows the use of a rope.

False economy Rich. If you use it a couple times a month it will pay for itself.

Then you will start using it a few times a week...

I realise that when you have not seen it work it would be a leap of faith to shell out that type of dough.

Heck it was tough for me to buy my first PW! The pullies.

I think what it was for me is that as I got more and more into low friction rigging, I saw how much more could be done with greater weights, and less effort. Sometimes the time saved is not a whole lot, but the effort in the tree is.

Yeah, I'm a broken record (scratched CD?) on the subject, but people if people just looked at the initial outlay they would never buy big saws or chippers. (for that matter I know a guy who has had a Vermeer C&D drum for decades. He's been adamant that big chippers are a waste. This winter he worked with a 12 inc morebark of a mutual friend. Now he wants a bifgger one)

Then there are times now adays where I have to stop and say "we can crash this out in smaller peices in half the time!":D

Rich My boss purchased my gear for me when I started my present job, even though I have my own personal gear. I upgraded my personal saddle last year and am now spoiled. I like my Master ll so much I want to wear it at work, but the boss wants me to wear the belt they got me. If you do decide to get a second belt you may not want to go back to the old one.

I know a number of gear junkies with multiple belts. An ultra lightweight for long trims, soemting heavyduty and padded for removals....Most of it is because they put a lot of money into finding the saddle they like best and have found that they like this one better for that work, the saddle will load and wear differently, espesialy in gaff work as Bud infers.

I will definately be purchasing a GRCS this summer, thanx to a lot of prodding by our own JPS:cool: I also have 2 saddles here, however with my new saddle being set up the way it is... I think I have all I need in that one. Who knows though... maybe the bosun seat will be a future purchase?

I purchased a new saddle last Friday from a Vermeer dealer. It's one of the Arbormaster Pro Series saddles. I like it so far, but I did notice an uncomfortable spot on each hip while standing on gaffs for too long. Not unbearable, just annoying. I might wear my old saddle if it's convenient for removals. The back of the belt is huge and super thick, but also super heavy. The new saddle is lighter and sits more comfortable for me.;)

What is a GRCS?

Good Rigging Control System.

it is a high end yachting winch adapted for tree rigging

4:1 and 12:1 MA on a self tailing drum

John, I talked with Rip Tomkins last week at NE Grows and he said that it's 22:1 and 44:1... not 4:1 and 12:1 Who is right? I am hearing too many different numbers :alien:

The figures Rip spoke of are the ones Harken uses for Yachting applications of the winch.

The ones I use are what Greg Good estimates are the end output MA for the GRCS int tree rigging opperations. It is in the copy he wrote for the catalogs.

I think what Greg said is that with the gears, the handle and the drum Harken uses those numbers.

I Dont understand it, but Greg uses the ones he provides in the catalog copy, saying that that is the aproximate output.
