Hey guys, just realized that this went into the HotSaw section so I am re-posting it here. Sorry if it just makes it a duplicate and shows up wasting your screen space:hmm3grin2orange:

So close... yet so far to go.
Finally got a chance to start grinding chains this weekend. With the research I have done here I have a pretty good handle on things. But... I have noticed (tried to take pictures but can't get my camera to focus properly) that the left side cutters are definitely longer than the right side. I ground (3) different chains, on (2) different grinders (a MAXX and a TL136) and got basically the same results. So I am consistently doing something wrong. I realize that there are a # of factors that can come into play here. If anyone has some suggestions I will take all I can get... Don't want to start wasting away on chains if I don't have to...

Thanks!

P.S. There also appears to be a "burr" that is curling over the top of the cutter? I am using the MAXX and an older TL136 (wheel spins both directions) that eliminate the burr on the outside edge, but this is something different.

If you are using the maxx and flipping the head over for the opposite cutters you are going to grind one side down farther than the other. I guess they werent worried about getting the wheel centered over the vise.

I have the maxx grinder too and that one of my projects is to get the wheel perfectly centered over the vise so Im not grinding irregularly. Just get a few shims and some time and it will be all fixed.

As for the burr, youll get a burr anytime you are not grinding into the cutter.
