Been doing some research on this since it's in our area. What treatments have you found to be effective? Deadwood removal, severing any potential grafted roots, and/or injections? How do you decide when it's time to remove vs. attempting the above?
 
Prevention to me is the only viable option and still no gurantee that the tree won't get DED. Once a tree starts 'flagging' it's only a matter of time. Some can last up to 3-4 years, other die in a month. I've kept some healthy that are on a high maintenance program. It's perpetutal care trunk injections, fertilization, cover sprays x3.
