I have been reading Aborist site for quite sometime now and find it great learning and entertainment as well. As a matter of fact you all gave me the inspiritation to get a HD 6400 and convert it into a 7900 for only the cost of the jug and piston. Thanks.
The reason I'm writing is to give my 2cents on 2 must have saws if 2 is all one can afford or want. I've been shopping around for saws for a while and settled on a Husky 353 and a Dolmar 6400 (converted to 7900) with a muffler mod.
Now granted I had the 353 sent to Walkers to have it woods ported but for the grand total of $540 it is an under 11lb limbing and smaller log cutting saw that is absolutely first rate. The Dolmars power to weight ratio is second to none and as you all know on this sight it is a flawless performer. The 2 saws work great together cutting down and limbing up for firewood anything up to 36" diameter and smaller.
I'm not a logger, just a part-timer that burns wood for heat, and find this combination works great together. Anyway it was a lot of fun rejugging the dolmar and a piece of cake thanks to all of your input throughout this last year. I would recommend these two saws to anyone looking for a combination that works well together. I know there are a lot of other good saws out there but again just my 2cents. Thanks for listening.

havenodog, right on. I think you've got about as fine a dynamic duo as one can get! Of course being limited to two saws is no fun, but the more I thought about it... Discounting the woods port, both the 353 and homegrown 7900 are also great values for what they are. A 353 is cheaper than a 346 and a good bargain for a true lightweight pro quality 50cc saw. I've heard they respond better to porting than us 346XP guys might want to admit. On the 7900 what's left to say? They are already a good deal and a great runner but if you're making them from a p/c upgrade they're a steal. A fine combo.

Of course your needs ain't my needs and vice versa. Around here there's little point in a weekend warrior like myself going much over 60cc, except that it's fun. Don't often get to work "big" wood. Maybe when I finally get into milling I can justify something like a 395. Oh and I might try to locate another 372 or 2171 while they're still around and get it ported. And I would like something in between that and the 346, maybe a 359DN or 357XP, even a 361 although it's the wrong color. Gee a full on race saw does sound like a fun toy too! Crap there goes the imaginary bike budget... :help:
