Are you just reporting that EAB is in your area? We have it here in STL, MO pretty bad. I'm going to treat my Green Ashs with Bayer tree & shrub defense this spring. Any thoughts or suggestions about that?

Spring AND fall, if using Bayer homeowner (Tree & Shrub Defense) imidicloprid. It has a low % of A.I. You need as much A.I. in the upper canopy as possible. EAB attacks in 3/4" branches first, then moves down. Female adults also foliage feed for 7 days before laying eggs.

The effectiveness of insecticide treatments for EAB is tied to pest pressure - basically how many bugs are in a given area. Under low pest pressure Bayer is okay. Once the pest pressure increases you will need more AI than can be had in Bayer. Under high pest pressure the best is likely going to be emamectin benzoate.

If it was my tree and I was within a mile or so of a hot spot I wouldn't waste my time/money on the imidacloprid, I'd go right to the EB and would be ready to treat come leaf-out.
