Sorry to hijack the thread but any one try the "load handler". I was thinking it would be easier than unloading the pickup in the garage instead of climbing in the back to grab splits and hitting my head all the time.

Load Handler

I would like to try one. I met a guy that had one in a 1/2 ton pickup and he said it work great. I would like to see one work first hand. We have thought about building one but i dont know what you would use.

I got the "heavy duty" unit. I was moving dirt with it and learned the first load it wasn't going to work well with the set up I had. I ended up getting a 4 X 12 sheet of particle board with formica on one side. This allowed it to slide easier. With dirt, there was just too much locking into the beds pattern for me. It was too the point of bending the crank. I used it a lot after that but you have to load in the center only. Around the wheel wells is a no no. Better than a wheel barrow, not near as good as a dump.

For wood? Honestly I wouldn't even consider it. Just my opinion.

Thats about what i figured. I thought about finding some heavy mat or something and a gear box and riging it up but it is as much work as a hoist. Kevin my dad has a 41 P W but it needs a lot of tlc.

I have another '41 closed cab here that I'll do in the future. Going to do this one stock. Have a '61 WM300 Power wagon too that will be mostly stock. Old Dodges are Like chainsaws....very addictive ;)

He also has a 53 civ it is a short bed 3/4 ton 3 on the tree power wagon. I am a jeep nut but they are cool.

Gas power rope winch!! They are are awesome:blob2::blob2::rock:!!!

What we did when dumping brush and clippings at the dump: we laid a heavy-duty lock cable (one of those kryptonite cables, like, 20' long) across the width of the trailer. Get to the dump, remove the tailgate, and back up to the metal post. Set the locking cable up like a slip knot, and use a chain to attach it to the post, Drive away, the locking cable tightens, and pulls it all off. Use the chain and truck to pull the locking cable from under the pile.

For shredded leaves we built a box with a sliding back wall that worked the same way
