A buddy and I took a load of junk to the town dump last week and I noticed this cottonwood sitting over in the "green only" pile. The guy at the dump even loaded my trailer with some cherry logs using the dozer. It does not get any easier then this.

We went back today to get the cottonwood. We had to cut it up and load it ourselves but it only to us 45 minutes tops to get what you can see in the trailer. I figure that I have at least two more loads to get as long as the weather holds out.

I know that cottonwood is not near the top of the list for good firewood, not even close, but this wood is dry, easy to split, and FREE.

Wow you guys are mean. Free and easy to get firewood is the best. Mix it with some better wood and stretch out your supply. Good deal.

I may have to rummage through the one over by work. Could be eventful if it worked out for you like that

I like the GM/Ford combo.....makes me feel better about bailing them out!

Notice that the Chevy is pulling the Ford. Just kidding, I don't want to start a chevy / ford / dodge debate. I actually have a Ford truck but it is only a 2 wheel drive and I needed the 4 x 4 to get out of the area where the wood is. I also have a Chevy 1/2 ton trailer that gets a good work out this time of year.

Last of the easy wood

The word got out and by the time I got back to the dump on Wednesday for the second load it had been worked over by a few wood burner type folks. Most of the smaller stuff was gone. The second load was as big as the first, and here are today's pictures of the last and final load. The county is getting ready to burn it as soon as we have snow on the ground. The remaining wood is buried in the pile, or in other words, the remaining wood is not what can be called "easy wood".

The large rounds were cut into to 1/4 pieces to make them easier to load. The 395XP makes quick work of this. This is much easier then trying to split them with a sledge and wedge.

Before and after pictures of the wood pile

Here are some before and after pictures of the pile of wood and one shot from the top of the pile looking down. The whole pile is green material, (branches, moldy hay, weeds, etc.)

Not a bad score! I was out with my pickup today and took a ride by the city brush dump "just in case" No such luck however it looked like they had just got done grinding up the brush pile within the last day or so.

This is the easiest I ever had. Dropped this 26" red oak about 10ft from my wood pile.

I met a guy who has a one man tree operation so we struck a deal. He climbs the trees, drops them and we both buck em up and load my truck and trailer. I get free wood and help cutting and loading. He gets paid for tree removal and some free labor from me. Just got a nice size locast and we have three big ash trees too get to this week. :greenchainsaw:

Free is a very good price!!!!

Quoted from Tom Peterson "a local appliance store owner" commercial. But then he went bankrupt.

Good pictures.
