Seems kind of risky to rely on someone actually sending the saw back to the guy. I get a $600.00 chain saw and it costs me a negative feedback? I create a new account just to get this thing shipped to me and see ya. What happens if someone straight gases the thing? Think the seller/renter is a bit off track to try this gimmick.

I don't know - it looks legit but sounds a bit strange to me. As mentioned, if I was of evil intent, I could make off with a nice piece of equipment for little cost, and disappear into the ether...

I hope the guy comes out alright on this one...

That is an interesting concept, but it is not me. I dont feel that lucky. To easy for people to keep the saws.

Sounds like an insurance scam to me. It's sorta like a chainsaw library, where you check out the tool and pay overdue fees or simply keep the item and the owner claims the insurance.
Why would someone be looking for someone to rent/ lease /borrow/ pay as you play chainsaw library simply for the exposure it would afford?
Even if it was on the level, does he actually believe the recipient would use the saw as though it were his own even if he knew how to use a saw in the first place?
The learning curve is simply too big here for this to be anything but a foolhardy venture, however, I wish the guy all the luck in the world.
Regardless, two days isn't long enough to really give a saw any kind of endorsement.

Dave let us know how you make out. I wonder if it is our very own Dave Nieger. He is from that area I believe, Woodshonkie would know better since he was at his house for the mid west get together.

I can say John knows his saws and there market price. I had a 360 pro in my hands over the weekend maybe 5 tanks run init with a cherry 24" bar. The guy wanted 350. I gave a big shout out to John and he said market price would be 200. What a nice saw. HAHA. Oh one more little tip never buy a new saw when your wife is about to give birth and you don't have a job.

Is this seller perhaps TonyM?

At any rate, even if two days were enough to try the saw adequately, the shipping and insurance both ways plus whatever the auction amount turns out to be is likely to be more than it would cost you to rent a similar saw locally.

If you read the text of the auction carefully you will see that the seller sates that you will submit a check with a signed user agreement before you will get the saw. Sounds like he`s doing a fair job of protecting himself from the loss of the equipment by theft. No way can he gaurantee that someone won`t run straight gas in it but that is probably covered in the user agreement.

To add to Mark's advice. Never, buy a new saw in the winter even if you have a job but are self employed. Youur wife may begin to give birth even though she was not pregnant.

Speaking of 7900's, I put myself on light duties today due to the heart attack I had because I pushed pushed in the bush. I always wanted to fook myself to death, but no such luck this time.
If I knotch and sidecut a tree on Monday and fell it on Tues, and skid it on Wed., then I should be able to keep the wolf away from the door.
Let's see, um 72 trees at 1000$/stem x 3 = 216 days divided into 72,000 $ = 300$/day approx. x 50% = 150$ net/day or 150$/hr. depending upon how you do the math.
Anyway, is the juice worth the squeeze?

WOW! Do you know how to fall a tree? You have got your hinge corner cut off right now. This is a classic example of what NOT to do when falling a tree. thanks Red

That was interesting. I kind of like the variety of comments! I will say no more, as I am not an arboristsite sponsor, but I think the guy is definitely legit, and Jokers had a good point about the user agreement. Makes sense to me! Oh, and I would hope that this guy wouldn't send a $600 dollar saw to someone with no prior feedback.

Maybe there was no reason to turn the trunk.

Well I got 4 down and out today. The most stressful part is when they start chasing you around in the woods. Good thing I had my nitroglycerine with me!
