Ebay MS440?

Looks like a 440, although all the tags are missing. The 460 and 360 have a compression release and this saw doesn't. There is the appropriate gap between the air filter cover and engine cover indicating that it's one of the pro saws and not a 290/310/390 POS. What makes you think it isn't a 440?

Can't be to new looks like it has seen better day and does not seem to have a decompression valve.

Not that new. Someone popped off the tag and wiped the labeling off the side cover with solvent or something. I wouldn't be surprised if the serial number tag was missing also. The saw looks too suspicious for my tastes, but it is definitely a 440.

Ms361/341

"Sure looks like an MS361 to me" I second that, If you look at the top shroud on the chain side it wraps too tight around the top of the cylinder head. In the latest Stihl catalogue it looks like the 341/361, also have the two holes in the top shroud. Maybe it is still a good deal? Mike

That saw does not look like it has been used that much, but definatly abused when it was. That 49.99 shipping is quite a good deal as well. I just had a 3120 shipped for $20 and I thought that was alot.

I'll go with saying it's a 361 as well. What a joke. This guy also has a couple of 200T's and a 460 up for auction, but after he mislabeled and misrepresented this saw so poorly, I'd be very hesitent buying from him. Hopefully the buyer knew what he was getting. Probably not. I almost want to email him and tell him what to expect, but I reckon it's best I just stay out of it.

Hopefully we don't have him (the buyer) on the board complaining about his Ebay purchase!

No, hopefully we do. Then we can inform him on what's going on. We can explain to him that he's got a good saw, but that it's obviously been used, and isn't the saw he likely thought he was buying. Now, he can stick with it, or he can send it back and take action for a fraudulent sell.

He...is a member of the board. Someone sent me an e-mail and I questioned the seller. He double checked it and it is a 361. I told him that I did not want the saw. I have since bought a 044.

Well good for you Bill. I hate seeing folks get scammed on ebay, either intentionally or not. The 361 is a great saw, one of my favorites, but I'm glad that you won't be using it thinkig you've got a 440 and expecting a 440's kind of performance from it. That 361 was suspect as well. It appeared to have a good crack in the clutch cover, which however it got there, it had to be a good hit to the saw.

Welcome to AS. Hopeufully you'll stick around even after all of this.

Jeff
