Echo 452vl & 2 mac 10-10s Help please

I traded a Oregon chain for a Echo 452VL that is without a doubt the nasty, dirtiest, saw I've ever seen. It needs the bar nuts, hand guard, and oil reservoir cap. But the thing runs. Anyway I found a 67 year old fellow that worked at the local saw shop in Galax, Va. for 42 years. He has Mac parts everywhere. He's had a stroke and can't remember where a third of it is. He is a blast to talk to. He has two mac 10-10s hanging on a rack. He said he cut a load of wood with one of them 2 years ago, had a stroke and they haven't been touched since. He said he would take $65.00 dollars for the pair. What do you all think?

Howdy Bobbyb13,

I'm no Mac expert but I did work on one of my neighbors MAC 10-10 a few weeks ago. It doesent have to many modern safety features. I would be concerned about parts. If I did not have a saw and I needed one to cut wood I wood give $65 for it as long as it is in good shape. Looks like for two you cant loose. That old feller probably can tell you more about chainsaws than you ever wanted to know. If it was me I would cut him a couple loads of wood and give $100 for them but I'm an old softy and a very poor bussiness man. Visit him often and talk about saws it may help him out.

Vagaome, You're right, I am going to visit the man as much as possible. His wife and son have passed on and he is a hoot to listen to. He's forgot more than I'll ever learn about saws. I think Matt, Josh, and I will just deliver the old boy a couple loads of wood, wheather I buy the macs or not. I know my sons will enjoy listening to him.

Howdy Aigain Bobbyb13,

Good form on your part. My Mom had a heart attack/ bypass and a stroke. I had to extend my emergency leave to help her talk again. She would try to say something but I was the only one that could understand her. Funny how that works I don't understand it myself only that I could understand her.

I hope when I'm old and alone good people will help me. You take care Bobbyb13, tis the season ya know. Good talking to you.

hope u don't mind but i gotta show this post to the wife and a few friends of mine. they think i'm a bit strange coz i got a saw and like to burn wood for heat, they think every one on this site must be mad because we all got a love for saws, this might just show them we can be more "human" and normal, than "normal" folk. i for one take my hat off to you.

old macs

for that price why not. might be good older macs. i would may make hot sawz out of them old beasts and scared the he@@ out the neighborhood kids on halloween :hmm3grin2orange:

I done it now

After discussing it with the better half I idled up to Mr. MCMillian's home invited him to breakfast, and to ride over to the farm with me for a while, He is going to have christmas with us, and he knew my dad, and my father in law. He is a heck of a nice old gentleman who's manners are impecable around my wife. I've learned a ton about saws from him already. I think the old boy is just lonesome because he has a ball around my youngest son Josh. he told Josh to get the two mac's. Now ant that something, offers to sell them to me, but give them to Josh. Josh told him there was no way he was taking them for free. Made me kinda proud of him.

 , its like the ending to the lassie films. nice one, you have my respect and are a gentleman, sounds like you got a good wife and kids as well,

Thank you, I've been a blessed and fortunate man. Except for this chain saw addiction I'd probably be normal.

A little trick I found that worked when my mom had a stroke, flash cards with a picture on the front and the word printed on the back of the card.

My first post.

Hello all. Came across this tread searching for another 452 VL. Anyway, if you havent already, I would buy the two saws from the man. If nothing else, something to remember him by. -J
