Whats the general opinion on these saws? I have one +parts saw to go pick up and never had one in my hands.

The EVL line of Echo saws looks like a pretty good one to me. I have run a few and I like them, especially my twin.
General impressions .... Well engineered (IMHO a bit OVER-engineered in spots) ... they hold their paint very well ... now for the BAD side of the fence ... they can be a problem to get parts for, Echo ain't the fastest supply-chain player on the block .... their magnesium castings could have been beefier in some places ..

Hello,
The CS 510 EVL is my first chainsaw, i own it for about 20 years. Not a fast running saw but easy starting, good running, very reliable. It gets a lot of work done with a sharp chain and it costs almost nothing compared with the 'leading' brands. The only known weak point that i have heard of, but not experienced, is the ignition. On my, now almost twenty EVL models i had never a bad ignition. Have almost the whole EVL range from the 280 EVL up to the 900 EVL. Weight is another already mentioned point but seen against the building period mid eighties, most saws had not very much plastic and were a bit heavyer then nowadays. The clutch cover often has cracks or little pieces broken off. The other magnesium parts are well build as far as i can judge, never had an issue with them.
Like the EVL models, especially my 5 twins.

Good looking saw. Just picked up a 660EVL. After replacing seals and carb rebuild it runs great. Starts easy but is somewhat slow with lots of torque. Typical for that era saw.
