I have a older 600 p echo that when it gets hot it is a runaway saw.it screams! It's a wonder it doesn't unravel! You can turn the switch off and it won't kill it,you have to choke it to kill it.it Don't do it all the time just when it's hot. Has anyone else have this problem? And what is the solution. Thanks in advance

It's sounds very motivated to cut wood. Is the wire for the off switch disconnected? As for the run away is the throttle sticking? Other more experienced folks can speak to a air leak or bad coil type of thing.

Thanks for the quick reply I have checked the throttle everything is fine normally the switch does its job I'm into a lot of hardwood as red oak hickory ECT when it is a runaway it sounds totally different I don't know why. I am scratching my head over this I really want to thank you for the reply though

That is a great thought I will try that this evening after I get off work thank you so very much I will keep in touch thanks again

Actually this all happened after I loan the saw out to a neighbor. I was thinking maybe he used some inferior oil mix I don't usually loan my saws out but I did like a dumb*!? Now I am paying the piper. It has good compression (160)so that ruled out bad rings

Assume you've replaced any mix he might have put in?

Yes I always run echo oil through it. Have at times run Stihl oil when I couldn't get echo

When I loaned it to him I gave him a gallon of echo.im thinking he probably used it up and got some off brand. He says he didn't but you know how that goes.i don't understand why the kill switch don't kill it when it's runaway but does kill it normally

Says he didn't but like I said you never know.al I know is his hiney can get Cold after this mess

If it's runaway and can't be killed by the ignition switch then it must auto-ignite (a bit like a diesel engine). Could be that the saw runs really hot and some carbon build-up or something is "glowing" and igniting the fuel mix without the spark from the sparkplug. Almost certainly means it is pre-igniting, making it run even hotter to the point that no spark from the sparkplug is needed anymore. Very bad situation for your piston and cylinder imho. The beginning of it running too hot may well be some air leak causing it to run lean (like Paul suggested).
Find the cause and fix it. This is going to kill your saw before too long.

It does have a Air leak but I haven't pin pointed it yet. I'm definitely going to find and fix before I use it again.the saw I my go to saw when I'm in big hard wood. I have a Stihl farm boss witch is ok but the echo does alot better. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking it or saying anything bad about Stihl but the echo does alot better .of course the echo has more CC's. I want to thank everyone for your help and may God bless you

I had an old John Deere saw do the same thing and I replaced the coil and that fixed the problem. It would work fine one time and when it was run for a while then wouldn’t shut off. Coil fixed the no shut off problem

I've had to replace the boot between the carb and cylinder on mt CS600. Steve
That's where I think it's leaking, not for sure yet but that area caught my eye last night.im definitely going to find and fix it before I use it again. This forum is the best, don't know how I hadn't heard about it. I can't thank y'all enough

This is a pretty common air leak area in the event that the neighbor got the bar pinched and continually yanked the handle to free it. It’s possible the boot is just pulled off and miss aligned. I’d check there first and if you find it’s not connected properly, reattach it.
However, at that point I’d also inspect the AV mounts and handle mount locations to be sure he didn’t damage anything else.
