This thread really has no purpose other than to display the differences between an early serial number Echo 650evl to a later serial number Echo 65evl. Hopefully it will help somebody looking for parts to be able to find what they need. In the series of pictures following, the first picture in a set of two will always be of the newer saw, the second of the older/earlier model. Also, in pictures where there are both saws, the left saw is the newer model, and the right saw is the older/earlier model.

Nice post. I have JD 65EV/Echo 650EVL. I've gained a whole new level of respect for Echo since starting to use that saw. Once I get a 20" 3/8 B+C to replace the 16" that's on it I'd say it'll rank right up there with my other favorites. 20"'s just hang better for me.

Nice post, the newer model looks almost like my CS 660 EVL. The newer style chaincover.
Use it with 20 and 24" tsumura bars. Also own a 750 EVL and recently I completed a CS 6700 that in the first cuts feels a bit stronger but it is a younger design.
My collection is also in regular use for firewood and very dependable for their age.

Greetings from Holland
Jos.

Interesting, I'd never seen the earlier style clutch cover before, I like the look better.

@Bret4207 if you like the 65ev, you need to try a 750evl, whole 'nother level of beast...
If you strip the guts out of the muffler on the 65 it will easily keep up with a 750. They are very choked up. The down side is they get loud.

Just when you think these vintage Echo saws are dead, they come back to life like this one did:
Echo CS-500 EVL 1.JPG
This is a CS-500 and I have two of them, one with a chain brake and the other without it. One was having trouble running, and I simply replaced the fuel filter. That's the only thing that was wrong. No trouble pulling a 20" bar, these saws were built to last.

Dad has a 650 evl and it has cut a lot of firewood. Not the fastest but it has the torque.
Still has very good compression.
Had a different carb and airfilter put on years ago.

Also have a 500 vl that is after the recall. Picked it up for $50 from a garage sale.

I have a 330 and a 440 a 500 a 510 and what I think is a 650 a couple 701 and a 750 and probably couple more that I'm forgetting. I'm not really an echo guy I had someone interested in the middle 3 I was trying to find out what the one was for sure before I priced it to him but he's no longer answering me about them guess he changed his mind but I'd still like to know that that one is. It looks just like the 5xx models I have except for it feels heavier and it has those extra fins right under the air filter cover. I saw a 650 that had those same fins that's what makes me think it's a 650 but there may be other models that have those or other ways to tell that's what I was hoping to learn

I used my CS-4500 (post #13) to buck a bunch of elm and ash logs at a drop site. I later split them all. This saw operated as if it were brand new. I was truly amazed at the power and performance of a saw that has to be 30 years old. Fuel economy was very good in addition to power. I am very glad that I restored this saw. The original owner used it a lot, and it is still going strong. Two thumbs up!
