Hi All,

I have a ported 4910 pushing ~5.5hp. Im looking to swap it to 3/8 with a 24in .050 bar. I wont regularly be cutting through 24in wood. Most is 18 or less. But having that extra 6in when needed will be nice to have. Anyone see any issue with what im looking to do given the juice this saw has?

I would say you are on the cusp. Most 24" bar saws have 60cc or more. You need torque in addition to horsepower. Hp goes up with RPM and can do so without any torque increase. You may not have obtained any torque increase by porting it. If you did, then it could pull the 24" bar.

The torque stock is ~1.94. My ported saw is ~3.1.

Yes, To much bar for a 49cc saw. Also the oiler may not put out enough oil to keep the chain happy. May I suggest a 18 BC. However if you decide to go the 24 inch route may I suggest using a .325 chain.

I have a husqvarna 550xp and have a tsumara 18" 3/8's .050 bar on it. It does fine. Saw is stock other then a muffler mod. I cut all types of wood with it. About a months go we had a cottonwood limb fall across the road and the limb was over 24" and I didn't have any problem cutting it. So if yours is ported, 3/8 should be no problem. I would say 20" max thought. The little saws lack the torque the bigger saws have for bigger bars
