Echo CS-670 Porting At Home?

Real quick, I always liked my 670 and thought the power was decent enough. However once I stated operating a 390XP, a 555 auto tune, and now a little 545 Mark II, this saw is utterly gutless even when tuned. Watching videos of the 680 and 670 on youtube shows about the same performance as mine. The ported saws sound and look like they are really woken up.

Being I have never ported, and do not understand all the timing numbers, could I follow Tinmans videos and grind like his and just be conservative? Or would this make it worse?

It looks like most of the gain are increasing the transfer port size, and widening the exhaust port.
 
Hello. The easyest way is to send the saw to a professional porter, like Huskil or other one. Someone thats now What he is doing. Tinman is the Canadian ironhorse.
There are many porters that do mutch bettet work than Tinman.
To port a cylinder needs alot of tools , grinders, lathe and the most important knowledge, visdom and common sence.
 
I honestly would let it go if I had to pay for a professional porting job. I was hoping to not have to do lathe work. He did all his porting with just a base gasket delete and the results of his final product really spoke in the videos. It was a screamer.

My 555 leaves it in the dust with a 20in bar. My 545 also out cuts it with a 18 in bar .325 chain, but when I put a 3/8 .050 20IN on my 545 it felt like the echo might have made more torque. But that is not good for its heavy weight and 66.7 CC.
 
Before you make a dramatic change, try lowering the rakers a step. Do you sharpen your own chains? Have a raker gauge? I don't have a 670, but I have and run a lot of Echo saws, including a grey 6700. The older, and Echo saws, have less chain speed than a Husqvarna, but may have more torque at the slower speed. This may allow them to "take a bigger bite" with each chain tooth. The result can be surprising. It won't make that saw a screamer, it's more of a tractor. But you may be surprised how it will walk through a piece of wood.
 


Skip to 1:39 time stamp to save time. On this video I know the carb is pig rich. This is when it had a fresh zero hour top end and I was nervous as to why the first burned up. But you cna see how grabby the chain is and the clutch stall. I have since leaned out the carburetor and it is much better but still a slug compared to other saws. I have 10 tanks thru it at this point and I felt it break in and loosen up.

I later found out the reason why it burned up and it was becuase the hole in the diaphragm plate allowed a ton of fineings in and did not allow the diaphragm to move.
