I purchased an Echo SRM-251E trimmer yesterday. It has a 25.4cc engine with an adjustable carb and a non catalyst muffler. The manual says to run atleast two tanks of fuel through it before touching the carb. A bottle of Echo synthetic blend oil came with it (50:1). I have run two tanks through it this afternoon, runs great. Using 91 octane at 50:1 with the Echo Synthetic oil.

My question is can I safely remove the spark arresting screen on this model?

Have any of you gurus had any experience with this model of Echo trimmer?
Also will I have to adjust the carb if I remove the screen?

I don't have a tach at the present time. I am thinking of ordering one from Bailey's, has anyone had experience with the one they have for $69?

Thanks

Just my advice, I wouldnt remove the spark arrestor. Those Echo trimmers already make good power, and removing the screen is asking to get debris sucked into the cylinder. I modded the muffler on my SRM 2400 and re-installed the screen and noticed a little gain. By the way, I love my Echo weed trimmers, light, powerful, dependable, and easy to start.
