Thinking about changing to Elastostart on a bog standard MS250 without decompression.
Never met one in real life but it looks like the handle has a spring inside so I'm wondering as the 250 needs all the raw unadulterated pull it can get, if the spring in the handle will actually make starting it more difficult by making the pull more slack?

It works well on bigger saws with high compression, not so much on smaller saws imho. It does soften the initial jerk when starting, some guys love them and put them on everything.
Some people complain the MS250 is "hard to start (pull over)".
The elastostart handle does make the saw seem to pull over easier, smoothing out the jolt as the piston approaches TDC and builds resistance from compression.
I put one on my MS250 and like it.
0000 190 3402 is the part number.

Put one on my MS250 as well. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

I would get the version used on pro Stihl saws.
Part 1128 190 3400
Uses rubber instead of spring which dampens shock better. Fits no problem plus has a better handle to pull

Just make sure it is the correct rope diameter for the starter pulley. MS250 uses 3 mm. 1128 series uses 3.5. 0000 190 3402 is the number you want. You do not need a special rope when replacing with the spring handle.

The 1128 handle is also much larger than the 000 190 3402. It gives you more to hold on to when starting the saw, which is nice, but the larger handle is also a bit clunky and can get in the way when operating the saw. Just my opinion, YMMV.

The 3.5 mm rope fits fine on 1123 pulley.
It was used before if you look on 025 ipl as an option or previous part. I think line 40?
The rubber reduces jolt better than the spring handle imo.
The handle is larger, but I don’t think really at issue unless your doing thinning or limbing.
