Just wonder if any use an Elliot boom. Doesn't seem like they are too popular for tree work? Why is that? Seems their lifting capacity would be useful. I see Matt with a grapple truck he can put a bucket on. That seems to be quite the tool. I want a 75 footer for Christmas, jk. Any imput on the Elliot?

You would be better off with something that articulates. We only use the bucket on our crane for extreme vertical or horizontal reach. It's way more useful for lifting stuff. A conventional bucket will be a lot faster, maneuverable, and over all more versatile if your main use for it is a bucket. We use the bucket a few times in a year it's the least used option, nice to have tho when you need it.

In conclusion endless your only tearing trees down a straight stick isn't top choice.

I had to modify my bucket it has a door on the front that at 80 foot I just didn't feel the greatest leaning against so I had someone seal it off from the inside with fiberglass so I have to climb in and out. The next battle was moving around with the remote in there so we made a bracket for it where the joystick would be in a bucket so I didn't have to keep moving it to my back.

I liked that bucket idea, Matt. Guy I work with a lot has a KB and lots of times he'll use it just to place a climber up in a tree. This is useful when your trimming a long line of pines. Saves a lot of time. That bucket would be perfect for that.
I even asked once if they made a bucket attachment, he told me because the hoses are exposed you couldn't use it for a bucket truck. I sent him a picture of yours.

I think an elliot would make a decent truck for tree work.
I cut my teeth many years ago using pelicans, straight stick steel lower with fiber glass upper with no outriggers but some kind of counter balance or big oversize swaybar on the rear chassis . I really cant remember how it worked but , I do remember being at full stick over the side doing a cut and hold on a really big limb over a pond and the truck tipped over on her side until I boomed down to the pond and then let go of her.

Anyone here use one in the past?

I have used a lot of aspluhnd trucks as well and they have their problems as well sometimes. There was a lot of times we had to unfold, then back into the tree when there wasn't any other way to get around lower limbs that were not coming off .

Im not trying to diss the articulated booms, just saying they have pros and cons as well.

Before the safety nazis start on me about moving the truck with the boom uncradled.Yes, I know it is a safety NO NO but, in the real world ,,,it happens.
