Anyone care to offer their rate for emergency services. got a call from a local village yesterday they had declared a tree an emergency and wanted it done that night. (fear of Hana coming). There crew was there and my two man crew took the thing done in about 3 1/2 hrs. Worked until dark just leaving about 40ft of stump left. They said to bill per hour "whatever it is it is we need it down tonight" I don't want to stick it to them but it's not really what I had planed for after an already long day.

did you leave a zero out?

at least 3k.

otherwise as an owner would you want to work almost 4 hrs longer.... you get that an hour anyway no? 375 that is.

plus "emergency".

Im with odb on that. NY pricing is close to MA right?
Figure the job out normal, add 50% as its like overtime, add some more for emergency. They knew what they were getting into.

Sorry fellas I read the post wrong. I meant to type $3750.00 is what id charge. @ $1,071.43 an hour. Kids were bothering me about the wind and our trees moving and lost track of what I was saying.

We do LOTS of 911 work!!!!!!! I do not know how our rates would compare to yours on the day to day thing but take your rate and for 911 work

m-f 7am to 5pm X1.5 (you just pissed of a customer as you left their job to do a 911)

from 5pm to 10pm x2 (your men are working over time IE. 1.5)

10pm - 7am x3 (your men are working over time (x2)and not home sleeping so you will probably have to re setup this weeks work and piss off more people)

and if you are running from one 911 job to the next it stays at x3 (meaning you stop one 911 at 7am and go right to the next one at 7:15 am the rate dose not drop back until you do back to your normal work)

I feel as though if im gettin drug out after my hours I need to get PAID... I pretty much will of course drop my price if its not that serious but bottom line to the bottom line is I need to make a living stuff isn't getting any cheaper.

I guess i'm seeing these prices a little high. But I'm not used to doing 911 work. Have only done a few in the past. I keep telling my self that we dropped everything to go and take care of this and worked as long as there was light at their request. Just don't want to piss anyone off and not get any return calls. Have until Monday to decide so keep the opinions coming

We use our rates sheet with city's , county's , state of CA and fed's and have never had any of them blink ( we have been in bis for 20 years )!!

If you go by the labor laws (in a nut shell) your first 8 hr. is st rate time 9-12 is 1.5 and after 12 it's x2 and so on so if we have to pay our people x 1.5 -x2 and so on they expect to pay more and if you go and work extra long hr. and do not charge extra the may look at you and wonder if you are playing by all the rules

I generally have 3 out for emergency work , or 2 guys and myself depends on situation. But generally 1,000.00 a hour yes.

How in the name of God do you get people to pay that much? (I want to know so we can do it, too.) What kind of conditions are you working in?

We could go balls to the wall at midnight in a blizzard with four guys and a truck and chipper and not make half that much.

we charge $500 an hr till 10 pm $700 hr after 10pm with 2 hr minimum YOU have to take care of your crew and your self you have to think im worth that with all the equipment men fuel and being away from family and being a emergency job take care be safe.

Well here in Richmond,Va everything is high the cost of living is Extremely high. I consider my time and guys time of being away from home.

Id charge like they were clients, not kidnapping victims. They may have alot more work for someone, might want to be reasonable so it might be you. Do right by them and they will tell 4 other people about it, stiff em and the will tell dozens and dozens. .

If you run a 2 man crew and could use more work and a good reputation in the long term, price how you would expect to be charged by a reasonable honest tradesman.

If you want to grab a quick buck, charge em like a lawyer dealing with a drug baron on death row, and share the same level of ethics.Have your company name associated with "gouging" or "Rip off" and it will stick for a long time.

Yep.

From what you're describing, it was after a regular work day so 2X covers your OT to employees and your emergency response. If your guys did a good job and were substantially inconvenienced by being there, flip them a bonus. Can't put a $ figure on it because rates vary so much from location to location. By doing 2X, you are keeping it in line with your regular rates and what your local market will bear.

I've only when $1000/hr with large crews and a crane.

You need a minimum to roll the guys out, but $333/man hour is not practical if you want to be called back again.

There crew was there ...

Are you implying that the crew was near buy and only had to be diverted? Then I would say time +.5

If they got rousted out of dinner then double time is good.

You may want to look at what local AFSME union contracts require. I think that after so much time the local guys get triple pay for emergency work.

10pm - 7am x3 (your men are working over time (x2)and not home sleeping so you will probably have to resetup this weeks work and piss off more people

You should also charge and pay from the call time (being contingent on prompt responce, maybe a straight one hour "call" pay. give then a chance to finish dinner, get dressed and on the road)

If you go by the labor laws
I'm pretty sure that FSLA sets it at 150% for over 40 a week, the rest is through collective bargaining , e.g. my Wife is an "Electrical Brother" and gets X2 on Sundays and holidays.

If anyone wants to look deeper into it, here is the page http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/overtime_pay.htm

Good one, true.
