Wow never heard of prices that high? Must be more competition around here, I've never seen anyone charge that much around these parts. But I really have no Idea on what's the going rate around here for emergency work.

375.00 an hour sounds good to me..
Sorry fellas I read the post wrong. I meant to type $3750.00 is what id charge. @ $1,071.43 an hour. Kids were bothering me about the wind and our trees moving and lost track of what I was saying.

So did you read the post wrong, or type wrong? It sounds like you're guessing at what you'd charge.

Well here in Richmond,Va everything is high the cost of living is Extremely high.
According to city-data.com, "2008 cost of living index in Richmond: 82.4 (low, U.S. average is 100)" Hmmm....

What do you normally charge per hour for a crew of 3? Going by the rules of thumb posted here and you would charge 3x your rate for this emergency job, it would mean you normally charge $357 an hour for a crew of 3 for everyday work. That's a $3000 day. Is that routine for you?

I don't mean to attack you - I'm just wondering what's going on here. I can't make sense of it.

We've been charging $125 an hour for a climber and groundman + chipper and truck, for the last ten-years. Most of our jobs are contract, though, and they work out to about $200 an hour (two guys) 'cause we work like stink on those.

For us, an emegency job would probably be a private job, so it would be a fixed price based on risk. That could work out to perhaps three or four-hundred dollars an hour, max. Odds are, it would only last an hour or so because we work quickly and rarely clean up on emergency jobs. No time. Got to get to the next one because they tend to come all at once.

Price the job as you would on a regular day, include any additional expense like lights and traffic control and charge 1.5 the rate of the job because of the emergency. Explain the additional cost is to cover the crew overtime. No sense in burning the guy up, they will keep your name for the next time.

I am amazed at the range of pricing in our business. Do some of you have an accurate account of your operating expenses or are you just trying to stick it to the poor fella who has the misfortune of needing your services?

If I'm not mistaken this was for a town or municipality.the only time we charge for emergency work if it is going through insurance or a town for work.homeowners we take care of at normal rates if it is not an insurance claim.we try to include the deduct able in that price so there is no out of pocket for the homeowner in emergency work.

We have an ETR (emergancy tree removal) contract with the county.
It has preset hourly rates for man hours, (labor, climber, and timber faller) and for the equipment.
The time is started when the people and equipment deploy and stops when they finish or are returned to the regular job.
So if a driver has to leave a job with a chip truck and chipper, their billable time starts when they leave the job and continues until they return to the job they left from. Not counting down time if the job continues the next day. The man hours also include their travel time to and from the original job, unless the job is finished at the end of the work day. Then thay are only billed for travel time one way. But the equipment gets paid to be moved both ways.

I guess that is skyhigh tree prices :dizzy:

Yep... That is Sky High prices... If im getting called out after hours I want to get paid for it. They have many options out here of different tree company's to use. I feel as though thats what my time away from family and my guys time away from family is worth.

So whats your usual hourly rate and emergency rate?

So whats your usual hourly rate and emergency rate?

Tree Work rate $ 300.00 hr for 3 people
Tractor Work rate $110.00 hr
Backhoe Work rate $250.00 hr
Dozer Work rate $525.00 hr

Emergency rate reguardless of what I am doing is $1,000.00 an hour which is high but I value my time and If im going out I want to get paid well. But truth of matter is I have been leaning more towards doing excavation work and only taking on really large tree jobs.

We work in MA with. 4 people, bucket truck, chip truck, 23" chipper, asv track machine with a grapple, and stump grinder. We try to keep an average of about $3,600-4,000 per day. So thats $450-500 per hour. Normal everyday jobs. I price emergency work at 1.5x. We are one of the cheaper tree services in the area. The price also depends on how a company works. That why everyones prices range so much. I know we can do in one day what will take most 2-3 days or longer. So if I work one day at 500 and an hour, and the other company works 2 days at 250 an hour. In the end. Its the same price for the customer.

work

ipkyss you are exactly right on that.it depends on size of crew, equipment to get the job done quick.with that you have to pay for it, more over head and out of pocket.what takes us 4 hrs takes most companies full day or 2 days which ends up costing the customer more money.

Exactly what I am saying. I do have to say though. There are a lot of little companys around here that do work cheaper than I will start the trucks for. These are also the ones with no insurance, overhead, or equipment. Everyone has there own prices. As long as you are happy with what you are making. Its enough. Try not to be too greedy and you will go a long ways.
