Hi, I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks searching for some help. We had some tree work done at our house and the contractor left his Asplundh Whisper Chipper behind. He lives in a trailer park and was having storage problems. He told me it was OK to use it as we needed, it has been at my house for nearly two years. This is an older unit 85 or 86 vintage based upon the casting number on the engine. We have someone who does work for us on the property and while using the chipper the cooling fan drive belt broke. Unfortunately, he didn't notice and continued to use the unit until it came to a stop.

I cannot turn the crankshaft with the longest breaker bar I have, no doubt the engine is seized. The radiator is full, sufficient oil, no mixing of the two, just locked up.

I found a free 300 six Ford engine, same year and all, but discovered quickly that it was not stored correctly. Enough water had managed to creep into a couple of the cylinders and rust the bores to make it not worth trying to use. Time is money, so I've purchased a rebuilt complete engine for under 1K.

Now I need some help in figuring out how to remove the engine from the chipper. I don't have the serial or models numbers with me, I will update this upon my return home this evening. I have no manual, but did find the links someone has posted here. There are not many details on engine removal, it looks like there maybe an automotive type clutch inside the bell housing. If this is the case, do I just remove the engine as I would in an automobile?

I've decided to purchase this machine from the owner, he was going to sell it anyway. What is a reasonable price for a unit like this?

Thanks in advance you the help.
