....Is cost the main thing that puts most arborists off using them? What would they need to persuade you to use one?
*Cost is one thing.
*Having a huge piece of equipment that is useless once in the tree is another.
*Actual need is another...Sure getting into the tree is some work, but the hard work is the rest of the time in the tree, so I don't see saving a few minutes and a little energy worth the cost and the big piece of equipment in the tree. But that is just me. I know other guys who would be all over it if they were not so costly.

Seems like there is room for a better climbing saw...emission requirements have fouled up power/performance. Which then becomes a potential safety issue. Seems a lot of folks are not happy with Stihl's latest offering. Some battery powered ideas out of Europe may prove promising. Also, the one handed issue is worth investigating... We are now required (sort of) to have two hands on the saw to be in compliance with the ANSI Z-133 safety standard. A safety innovation that would permit one handed use seems like a worthy pursuit. Specific for arborist cross bow for firing climb line into tree. Folks are already doing this but with generic cross bow.

Our nine year old wants to invent a real light saber, when he does that the laser saw will be a natural next step...climbing with a just a light saber would be pretty cool. Now if I can just harness the power of THE FORCE! And get those limbs to the chipper...?
