Took down a rather large (to me) white pine and started cutting it up to either cart to a friend with a mill or discard in some way.

Short story, need to estimate the weight of each log for transport. The diameter tapers from 22" down to 17 inches for 8-9 ft logs. That's all I have cut so far.

Figured to ask here while I go hunting on the disinformation highway.

if we split your numbers to 20" dia and 8.5ft length, each log is 800#, some logs may be heavier assuming there are knots and stuff, so assume 900# per log and you will be pretty safe

33lb to 35 at best per sq ft.
Quick math on a short log is add 22 + 17. (as did the poster above) and divide by 2. He rounded up to 20" for easy maths. 20" x 20" = 400 sq in. knock off 20% for curvature. (actually is 21.5%) 320 sq in. 102 in long.
-------------------------
(1728 cu in to cu ft.)
320 × 102 = 32,600 cu in
then divide by 1728 = 18.9 cu ft. at 35 lb
total 660 lb

That's generous figures.

First time I did it, I went at 33 lb per cu ft and came up with 800 lb. then I took 25% off for the circle.
(not sure if the guy above did that?)

I used a green log weight calculator that figured diameter, after hundreds of crane lifts using this calculator over found it to be accurate within 100 pounds
