Woman from work brought in her saw for me to sharpen the chain. It was a Snapper 38cc saw that she said she got from Walmart. It had a 16" bar with full skip .365 chain and apparently came that way from the factory. Anyone ever see that before?

Ian

Box stores have been selling saws like that for a while. That way they can sell a saw with a bigger bar and chain and a small power head. Most people that buy saws from those places are only looking at bar length.

Never seen it, but it does make sense.
An underpowered saw with a long bar would perform better with skip chain than full comp.

This chain is pretty common on the small homeowner saws.

My little electric McCullough has the same chain. I think its just a low-kickback chain with an extra bumper tie which allows a low (crap) powerhead to cut better.

Gday, they are just some small nicks I put in the bar with a small dremel cut-off disc to allow bar oil from an Aux oiler to get into the channels.

Ive been using it to split some (very dry) Redgum 6" x 12" in half. If you don't know redgum, it has a similar density to Rock Maple (Sugar Maple? Acer saccharum) but has much more silica and gum pockets. Had to touch-up the chain after each cut. Saw is still going and haven't been able to kill it yet.

Cant wait to get my mits on a gas saw.:chainsaw: :)

OK, you can stop pissing yourself now.:looser:

Heres some pics of what the little electric did today with that low-kickback chain....wont find any noodles there.:(

The small label under neath the saw says it is actually a Husqvarna!

It may sound odd but in fact is true.Oregon chain at one time sold 1/4" chisel chain in full skip.I ran it on my Poulan S-25 and it really improved the saw.Even more hard to believe,Ralph Nader, who had enough power to get the Corvair taken off the market also got full skip little chain removed.

His brilliant thinking on the matter was that the consumer was being charged as much for this skip cain as for full complement but with only half the cutters. :bang: You have to remember this was in the days of the mini skirts but he didn't delve into that subject, which surprises me.

All Husky branded electrics have the engine lenghtwise, and they are made in Norway, by the earlier JO-BU company (as far as I know).

It is the same with Jonsered branded ones, and some Parner branded ones (++, I believe).
Your saw looks like the cheaper Partners, and is probably made by another company, that is also controlled by Husky.

I've never had a Walmart saw and since learning about skip chain last year, have always associated it with loggers and saw enthusiasts. It surprised me to see it on that Snapper.

I found a similar loop of chain in the woods a couple of weeks ago. I also put up a post about it, as having never seen anything like it before! The one I found did not have the big shark fin bumpers on it just one bumper drive link to a cutter. I gave it a try {after sharpening] and it works very good for making a ripping cut and lots of spaghetti.

Here is 4 videos I did so i could test some of my 105dl chains.
All 3/8 chains.
1st Semi-chisel full comp
2nd Skip square
3rd Full comp square
4th Full comp square with alittle more raker taken off
5th Open class race at Chardon 07

If you notice a few extra cracks on the throttle, it is because someone here stated they cant stand it and dont understand why homeowners with their wild things have to do that :hmm3grin2orange: , well because its music to my ears SM.
