Looking at a used Makita 6000i. It is reportedly a 60cc saw. Seems in good condition. I've never owned a Makita, I was looking at possibly obtaining this saw for my father's use. I 've been a mostly a Stihl fan. Would this be in the same ballpark as a Husky 359 or a Stihl MS310 ? Never owned a Makita any help ??? Yea or Nea ? Thanks

Makita own Dolmar, your Makita saw is actually a Dolmar in blue.

Dolmar have been making saws in Germany just about as long as Stihl, if you have local dealer support for Makita or Dolmar you should be ok.

The 6000 has a very good rep. If the price is right I`d go for it. Just keep in mind, that as Lobo stated it`s actually a Dolmar. This may become very important to you if Makita does not support them with parts and service.

I`d rather go to a Dolmar dealer anyway. Think about it, tool shop vs saw shop. I think saw shops should be doing repairs on saws, not some guy who is cross trained(hopefully trained) in repairing angle grinders and electric drills.

i have several dolmars and the makita 6800i. other then the weight, they are great saws. if you have any problem getting parts let me know and i will hook you up. i never had any problem getting parts even for the older 120's. marty

Parts support is fine yet for that model. They are bullet proof saws, but maybe a little heavy for the displacement. The only thing to watch for is the rubber anti-vibe mounts. They seem to need replacing frequently. That saw can be upped in displacement to the 6800i by swapping the piston/cylinder, then the power to weight ratio is pretty competitive.
