Hey guys, I'm new to the site and I'm looking for some info. I would imagine that this has been discussed before but I wasn't sure where to look.

Could anyone post any links to info on chain grinders and grind setup. Just trying to see how others like there falling chains setup.

Also I'm looking for a used silvey or simington grinder if anyone knows where I could find one. Chisel bit type. I looked around in the swap but didn't see a category that this would fall into.

Thanks for the info. It looks like there is some good info on this site, should provide for some good reading.

Thanks,
Jake

Welcome Aboard !!

...Alot of good info on here some pretty knowledgeable fallers , and some riggin rats with many decades of experience on the west coast ,B.C. and Alaska .. Also a bunch of serious timber beasts from down under ,, Tower Loggers no less !!!!!!
A nice straight used Silvey or Simington chain grinder is kind of a prize most would like to find .... .. My recommendation is to buy new ,, A new 451 Simington is sure nice ......If you do a search there are some very good threads on sharpening chain .. One very good one was under the heading of Carlton Fileoplate ...... You can also check the Chain Saw forum .......

thanks

thanks for the info. I'll try some more searching so far it has yeilded little results. I'll search file-0-plate and see what happens. I just started using one, sure like it. It made quite a difference on my landing chains. Actually a Columbia guy told me about it, said he was turned on to 'em up in AK. Also thanks for the suggestion on the grinder. Do you know where I could get some info on it?

Whats the price difference between the simington v. the silvey? I'm kind of leaning towards buying new just for any updates in the grinder and components. I just don't know how much I'm going to need it in the future. There are a few good grinders around my neck of the woods, the old boys are just having trouble turning loose of one :). I guess I'll keep trying.
