Falling snags and hazard trees in a USFS campground this week. You can't see the surgical scars but I'm trying to show off the two new knees that I got this winter. My knees aren't good enough yet for logging work but flat campgrounds with no slash or brush is right up my alley. I hope this "attach files" thing worked.

Good luck with your recovery. My wife is finding that recovery from her hip replacement (November 7th, 2023) is taking A LOT longer than she expected. She is a manager in a hardware store, and finds that she still isn't able to go full bore yet. She gets pretty worn out pretty easily.

Having been in the operating room for several orthopedic surgeries, it's a pretty traumatic process.

Sorry I wasn’t more specific. I’d chop the bark off the top, plunge in the top, and pull the saw down with the chain pulling out of the bark. Then the same from the opposite side.

Not as clean as your approach, but most times I skip the chopping part. Other than that, I always try to cut the bark from the inside out whether I am using the bottom or top of the bar.
