Notch is way too shallow. Did you do that for a reason?
The notch is supposed to be 80% of the tree dia....the shape of the tree affects how deep one needs to go to get that...it's very common in midwest/eastern felling to trim the flare off for the face cut. Works fine. Saves log wood. It's also up to the faller to determine the appropriate cuts for the tree and situation...variables. Having the hinge in the forward 1/3 of the diameter makes the hinge parallel with the growth rings which makes it a little more flexible than in the center of the tree.

That being said, going deeper means the hinge will be further back under the center of gravity, and the back cut shallower. Less room to wedge, less leverage for the wedge, but less height required to tip the tree. Variables...

Maybe the picture didn't show it well. It looked about 2in deep to me. I'm sure you know what you are doing and was curious about it

if your referring to my tree Diver, and we’re talking the depth of the notch. I’d say it’s two bar widths at the high side, close to one down low. You can see in this tree nicely where the line left in the log is from where I bored in to set the hinge. Then between the log and stump you can see the face cut depth and the width is a good 80% of the diameter of the stump.IMG_2601.jpeg
